Hey guys, playing a buddy who uses tyranids as necrons, we are doing a 500, 750, and 1000 points game. I have never played against a nids player, can someone give me some tips against playing nids in lower points games?

If playing against them, take large blast weapons and flamers. If playing as them, take lots of swarms to bog down the opposition, then hit them hard with monstrous creatures.

Necrons have neither in abundance.

Rather I'd recommend bringing in Tesla and Deathmarks. As much as you can get away with.

Wraiths also remain highly effective against most any Tyranid target. The MSS isn't that needed as the Tyranids don't really have that many super-scary character builds that are at all practical. Still funny if you get the swarmlord to kill himself with one though.

What i can tell you that if he brings a swarm of lil bugs it's gona be a fun game. You don't need anything specific against it. Just a tac list will do.

If he brings FMC spam than it won't be a fun game. You'll have to be extra shooty and hope to ground FMC. Generally, you'll have to bring a flyer spam yourself to deal with them.

As you can guess, against Tyranids you should probably leave the gauss weapons at home. You will be far better served by Tesla's greater volume of hits. Tesla stacks wounds on MCs (you probably weren't beating their save anyway), and roasts the smaller creatures with ease. Deathmarks are excellent MC hunters and can ensure that a valuable unit won't be coming home, while Wraiths as I said will be able to beat most Tyranids in assault or avoid the few fights they can't win.

Tyranids are generally too short ranged to care about night fighting so don't bank on it too much. The basic staff of light can also ignore the saves of most tyranids and at worst wounds on a 5 or more while still having a decent RoF so if you want to keep your courts cheap don't feel too bad about defaulting to the staff.

But seriously, Tesla, Tesla and more Tesla. Get all Red Alert up in this shindig.

Not for the Tyranid player.

Luckily I'm bring 6 tomb blades to the table, so I'll be able to tesla them to death. No wraiths or death marks unfortunately. I'll be using a flayed one pack to hold up a part of his force, and a few destroyer lords to take down any MC. I'll let you know how the games go guys!

Flayed ones are rather iffy against Tyranids due to their poor initiative and lack of fearlessness making them rather easily swept by Tyranids. They do have the weight of attacks to be good against Tyranid infantry (gaunts and gargoyles in particular) and are pretty tough sons of bitches for their points, but that doesn't do them much good if they get wiped out first. Are you using the flayed ones as a counter attack unit? This would be a better use for them then having them charge ahead and hope that they, in of themselves, can press home the advantage in melee.

If your D-lords are going alone without an escort, then you'll probably want the MSS on them, I2 and only so-so WS with no invulnerable save is not a great thing to have against AP2 enemies.

Consider looking for wraiths and deathmarks in the future, they're quite nice. Tesla immortals are also good to get whenever you know you're going to be facing more infantry than vehicles and the sync well with Night scythes.

Annihilation barges and Night/Doom Scythes look like they're going to be made even better by the new rules, so consider getting them as you expand your Necron army.

The Tomb blades will likely be a good choice on your part as they can stay out of the range of the more dangerous tyranid shooting and are really quite resilient, while being able to fry good numbers of Tyranid chaff units and put wounds on the MCs. TL on Tesla weapons is godly and will also mean that they won't really care about the coming snap shotting after using jink save rule.

Thanks for the tips Kain. I plan on using the flayed ones to stall a large group of nids, so my better squads can actually focus on shooting. I'm hoping to find some wraiths online soon
