Necron using tau allies?

I saw that necrons could take tau as allies, and a local offered me a good deal on some tau fire warriors, an hq and one of their vehicles.

Does necrons work well with tau?

Edit: he gave me the exact list, a crisis suit HQ, 15 fire warriors, a piranha skimmer and a hammerhead tank, all for 20 bucks. Even if they aren't good together I may be interested I'm the deal anyways because that seems like a steal, I still want some opinions though!

Tau can use necrons more than necrons could use tau.

Tau lack assault units so they could use wraiths and a dlord. They also lack units that can aggressively advance into the enemy deployment zone or snatch objectives so they can use troops in a night scythe.

The models are at a really good price. I don't think necrons need tau for much because they are a more balanced army, but like I said the price is good.

Thanks for the advice! I think i'll pick them up anyways just for painting them, I love the look of tau models!

Yea i dont think tau added into necrons would bring much. The Hammerhead technically could be useful but you'd need to bring marker support to make it worth it, which becomes expensive quick if youre bringing them for a single unit.

Well, as already said Tau lacks good (or any) combat dedicated unit or durable troops (FE notwithstanding). Necrons give both! 2 Warriors with Ghost Arks (or immortals in nightscythes) slumbering forward with Wraiths to murder stuff, while your shooty stuff keeps itself in the back (and using markerlights to ignore cover).
