I have a quick question. If an independent character joins a unit that has feel no pain, death company for example. But the independent character does not have feel no pain, does he get it while in the unit?

No, only the models that have a special rule can benefit from it. Fearless and such are exceptions as they are granted permissions for it to apply to the rest of the unit in their rule description. FNP, however, does not. He can only benefit from an ongoing effect or rule if he was apart of the unit when it was applied to that unit. If you're talking about buying a unit with FNP and then deploying it with an IC, then the IC doesn't benefit from it.

it depends how they get it, really. if you put a warboss in a unit of nobs with a painboy, the painboy gives the squad FNP, so he gets it. if you put a chaos lord in a unit of plague marines, they have the rule themselves so the character doesn't get it.

I should probably clarify my earlier point about ongoing effects in response to this. The rule states that if a character joins a unit after an ongoing effect has been applied; that the character does not gain the benfits or penalties of that effect. Obviously a painboy is an exception as it doesn't come under the ongoing criteria. It's just worth noting that some of these effects have been FAQed to allow them to be shared such as hunters from hyperspace counters with deathmarks where an IC shares the effect with a unit he's in if he was the target of it. However, things like blind or a psychic power that grants twinlinked would not grant the IC the benefits/penalties if he joined the unit after the effect was applied.

As you're talking about BA, remember that Sanguinary Priests were FAQ'ed to only share it's FnP-bubble with models from BA codex

This has to do with death company, they come with feel no pain and I was wondering if an independent character joined that unit with they then get feel no pain as well

No, he would not, the members of the DC unit have the rule at army purchase, ICs do not gain the unit's special rules, but they do become members of the unit(while retaining their own special rules, profile, and unit type).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
