Well I played this list (minus Squad Leader, as I unaccountably overlooked it) last night against
Vader w/Concussion Missiles and Determination
Turr w/Veteran Instincts
Backstabber
Academy Pilot
Academy Pilot
I lost this one but it was pretty close despite a lot of mistakes and confusion on my part.
Unfortunately, I failed to kill anything on my first turn. I was absolutely miserable with my B-Wings. After the initial joust, I pulled a short koiogran with the one to Lando's right while attempting to swing back around with the other. The plan was to leave the stressed B-Wing out while moving the YT-1300 between the other one and the TIEs pursuing it. But I misjudged the maneuver, which allowed Backstabber to masterfully line up on the exposed B-Wing before I could turn it back into the fray. The other B-Wing did its job attracting fire and managed to knock off an Academy Pilot but was in turn annihilated by Vader and Turr.
By mid game, I had lost both B-Wings with a mere Academy Pilot to show for it. Thankfully, Lando had only taken one or two hits to his shields by then. I proceeded to turn the YT-1300 back towards the center of the mat, picking off the other Academy Pilot and Backstabber on the way. But the combined firepower of Vader and Turr really started taking me apart. After some terrible rolling against Turr, my luck finally changed and I finished him off while scrambling to keep distance between us. It was down to Vader, with full shields, and Lando, with five hull points left.
Even at a major disadvantage, I figured I could still pull it out with some lucky rolling and flying. The key was the YT's 360 arc -- if only I could shake Vader's pursuit to get a turn of shooting without getting shot. In the meantime, I managed to knock him down to 2 hull points yet only had one left myself. I desperately needed to outmaneuver him and almost did. But having two actions allowed him to barrel roll in, lining Lando up with a target lock. "I have you now."
I am pretty happy with how I flew the YT-1300 but my total failure with the B-Wings more than made up for it. To my credit, this is only my second time flying a B-Wing and the first hardly counts. In that game, I was up against a guy who had been badly mauled by a B-Wing list the night before and so directed all fire, yes, six or seven TIEs' worth, at my B-Wing on turn one. So I was flying this game with pretty much no B-Wing experience.
I was really surprised by how unmaneuverable B-Wings are but I think this list can work with some better flying. As it was, I wasted pretty much all 10 or 11 points of upgrades by failing to keep in formation as planned and frankly not understanding the application of Advanced Sensors. Can someone explain Advanced Sensors to me? The best I can figure is it might be helpful to avoid collisions. Do they do something else to merit three points?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ah, so it was explained to me that Adv. Sensors are to avoid losing your action on a red maneuver. I should have liked to have realized as much during play, as that would have made me fly the B-Wings completely differently, perhaps even competently.
