I do also have some examples of previous, recent and current work.

Here are some that are on show on my DeviantART:

I will be up front and say these models are older, and in fact are no longer in my collection. In addition, I'm now using non-gw paints.

My current project is repainting a large collection of Space Marines (predominantly Bikers) to a new colour scheme. Without access to a well ventilated area or a large quantity of Nail Varnish remover (it works best in my experience, alongside an old toothbrush) I am painting over the old paint work. Fortunately, I can save areas that do not need painting over.
Here is an example of my current repainting progress:
http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2014/143/b/2/002_by_narric_sb0-d7jfcox.jpg
Admittantly needs more layers

There are also non-gw models I have been working on:

And some finished models:

http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/267/6/4/004_by_narric_sb0-d6npfff.jpg

If this does take off, one of my first priorities will be better paints, then brushes

I think you need to practice your skills a little bit more before trying to become a commission painter. The basic skill is there and I think after a few months you will be at a level where people will pay these prices.

A few things to take forward:
Water your paints down more, the paint you're applying is way too thick
Use washes, they will enhance the models no end
Look at edge highlighting to give some extra depth

Cheers

Thanks very much for the feedback ^_^ its actually rather rare I get that

I can certainly see that I need to water my paints down. My concern is watering them down too much, with the result being more of a wash or ink then an actual paint.

Speaking of washes, the only "Wash" I have is black which is a very water'd down acrylic paint.

i have done a bit more to the Blue Marines since taking that picture, which includes some edge highlighting. Hopefully it improves them ^_

Again, thank you for the feedback. I'm definately going to keep painting models for myself (go a lot of Marines to re-colour), but it doesn't hurt to keep it open for others to commission me.

You want your paint to be the consistency of cream or milk, I usually do 2:1 paint and water.

Look up some of the old white dwarf articles they were brilliant at developing painting skills.

I've recently reacquire may copies of "How to Paint Citadel Miniatures" and "Space Marines" I figure they'd be just as good on short notice?

First things first. Welcome to Dakka Dakka. I hope you find a good home here on the internets.

Now that;s out of the way I am gonna lay it on you. Please don;t take what I say too harshly use it as a step off point to become great.

You are not yet ready to be a commission painter. I see some talent there and I think in time you are gonna be great. Here are the things i would recommend you work on.

1. Consistently thinned paints. Yes it's a pain to have to go over the same spot on a model 8-10 times, but the results are worth it.
2. Practice your stroke work. Get to the point where you know where your brush is going and how to control it.
3. MOLD LINES. Way too many in your pictures. I find it easier to take pictures of the models and look at them. It's amazing how much the naked eye misses that you will easily pick up when looking at a picture.
4. Techniques, pick up things like 2 brush blending, wet blending etc. It will let you create results for clients that will have them wanting to through money at you.
5. Shading and highlighting. Look at how light hits on surfaces around you, Everything is different shades based on where the light hits and doesn't.

Also as a side note. Post your pictures here on dakka. Ask for advice and critique. There are so many insanely talented painters here that are always willing to help.

Good luck and keep posting.

+1 to this. Have a look in my gallery, specifically at some of my older stuff Compared to my latest offerings. Even with the improvements I have made over the last two years or so, I still wouldn't consider becoming a commission painter. For one, I don't think I'm good enough, and for another its completely different painting for money. There are many things you need to take into consideration, such as time, cost and quality. I'm not saying you're a bad painter, just that you're not ready to charge for your work. Please don't be discouraged by these comments. Instead use them as inspiration to improve. I have posted a pic below showing my own improvement, hopefully it will inspire you the way others inspired me

I'm not going to be discouraged. Its nice to finally get some feedback on my work.

@Darefsky
I will start posting my pics up. I've got a lot of models to practice on so hopefully I can improve.

@Tomcat

Ok first off everything mentioned above^^^ you have potential but the quality is table top at best.
Even now my painting is improving I would still not consider putting myself out there for commission work, I keep asking myself would I be happy to pay for my paint jobs?
YouTube is your friend!!!! Watch tutorials practice the techniques watch the tutorials practice the techniques and repeat....
Get some fairy power spray for stripping mini's I've just bought some from wilko's for £3 and it really is gods gift to stripping mini's
Have a look at tyranidpainters commission post he has improved vastly in the last few months http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/535574.page
Also if you haven't already look at getting an airbrush, although this in itself won't improve your painting it opens up a whole new area of effects and techniques for you to add to your arsenal.
And finally post your pictures to dakka maybe even start a blog showing your work and how your improving the feedback you will get from fellow painters is invaluable.
Good luck and keep painting

I read the bit about fairy power spray as being akin to fairy dust artists use to make the stuff look good, so was about to joke that my local is always out
For stripping paints I've used either Nail Varnish remover or Mr Muscle Window Cleaner. both do well to take the paint off with the only difficulty being the primer. Toothbrush with stiff bristles gets it right into the smallest places

I have many a time considered airbrushing, but I am serverely limited for space and would not be able to use it. Its certainly on my list of things to get to expand my options.

I do already have a blog:
http://daemonfiregames.blogspot.com/
I have a boat loat of pictures I should see about uploading to it soon

I can see that my skill is only Tabletop standard. Only way is up
