Hey guys,

I was thinking about switching it up a bit and maybe taking around 15 bikes from my white scars army and building a 1750 army list with other chapter tactics.

What would the best chapter tactics be for a SM army with a good amount of bikes that isn't white scars?

I was thinking either Iron Hands (Raukaan) with the beatstick CM that is supported by vehicles maybe some dreads in pods or something, or Ultramarines since they have some doctrines letting you reroll snapshots (in case you elect to jink now in 7th) and have a good balance of firepower behind them.

Anyhow, input would be greatly appreciated I'm sure this isn't the first time this question has come up

Bikes have twin linked bolt guns. You're twin linked all shots all the time, let alone snap shots.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Salamanders, since you can get an extra flamer or melta into each of your squads, and the multimelta will be Relentless.

One of the advantages of bikes is the ability to close quickly. Black Templar characters just got a boost from the challenge rules and they love getting up field?

I'd say Iron Hands is a pretty good choice. Nothing wrong with adding a 5+ FNP on to your already tough bikers.

Iron Hands FNP is 6+

Whoops. Might be thinking of IWND.

Iron hands bikes seem like they would be very strong especially with that CM with gorgon's.

What do you guys think would go well in the rest of the list? Vehicles are a little stronger in 7th especially land raiders plus the IWND.

Maybe some drop pod iron clads to support the bikes and a thunder fire cannon in the back giving you some pie plates.

Iron Hands (extremely durable)

Ravenwing (very relible MSU builds that can be extremely annoying, and with a battleforged list allows you to cap tons of objectives)

if forgeworld is available astra claws might not be a bad option either

taking the fully tooled up iron hands supplement chapter master is extremely devastation and super hard to bring down and would be my choice

I currently love white scars with khan (counts as army painted up as unforgiven) .... scouting your entire army turn 1 followed by a 12 inch move is amazing (and scouting land raiders are hilarious), is there any reason why your swapping?

I just wanted to try out some new strong ways to run bikes so I have options but I will still run white scars mostly

Don't be tricked by Land Raiders. The new vehicle damage rules make them very durable, but the amount of firepower they can bring to bear is just as underwhelming for their points as before.

A Land Raider's primary role is still that of a transport first, tank second.

That said, the new vehicle rules make quite a bit of the SM vehicles a tad more viable. Dropping a couple of ironclad dreadnoughts along with a decked out CM with Gorgons Chains and the Heartsone for a 4+ IWND on those ironclads would be pretty hilarious.

Salamanders isn't a bad shout. Each sergeant would get a mastercraft on his combi plasma/grav and obviously Vulkan (while on foot) would unlock a command squad and lots of master crafted Melta goodness.

A bikes biggest enemy is the Helldrake and while it still will be, your captain who can have a 2+ (Or anything with a 2+ for that matter) is fairly immune to flames having only a 1/36 chance of failing a save!

Raven Guard still lets those bikes scout, right? Between that and their movement, you can threaten pretty much anything turn 1.

Ravenwing are the best. The single reason is the banner of devastation and the simple fact that black knights are that much better than normal bikers. Black knights have twin linked plasma guns. On top of that we have the dark shroud support land speeder which is (for lack of a better explanation) a venomthrope strapped to a sports car with 3 wounds and a heavy bolter (optional assault cannon). The ravenwing are simply the best because of our ability to supply extreme volumes of dakka and then assault and clear out anything left standing better than normal marines can.

The only real advantage c:sm marines get is grav weapons and white scars scouting rhinos.

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts
