Hello all, i've been given a challenge that seems to be a lot harder than I originally thought. My friend bet I couldn't beat him once in three games with his list with my Butcher2 tier. Of course I accepted, who could take 60 Doom Reavers and live to tell the tale? Well i'm two games down with one left. So without further ado, here is his list:

Squire
Storm wall
Sentinel
Stormclad
Storm Strider
Stormsmith Stormcaller
Journeyman Warcaster
Sword Knight with UA

So much Electric Leap! I'm running Butcher2 tier with 10 units of Reavers and a Berserker. I have no problem trashing the Battle engine and most of the Jacks and Units, it's the Colossal and Haley that I can't seem to crack. And by the time i'm swinging at them, most of my reavers are barbecued. My question is: How would you play this out in my position? Also, i've tried the Greylord UA's and found myself going back to pure Doomies. Don't want this thread to turn into a "To UA or not to UA", as the boards are full of those. Any help is appreciated. Well, one of the main points of Butchers theme is the extra UAs. So not taking them is deliberately hamstringing you.

Second, that list is not a good Cygnar drop period. And you're facing one of the worse matchups too.

Doomreavers, UA or not, die to massed shooting. Which cygnar has a lot of. And he's got a lot of shooting in this list, not as much as he could have either. Also lots of E-leap.


Your best option frankly is to not play Butcher 2 Theme list.

Go for something like eIrusk with a Spriggan and Behemoth, 2 units of Black Dragons, 2 Iron Fank Kovniks, eEiryss(to get rid of Arcane Shield), and a Mortar.

Haley doesn't have an Arc Node in that list, which means she'll be playing a little farther forward than people would normally play her. The Mortar can keep her camping focus, and even with focus a FFE'd mortar kills squishy casters like Haley if it can get a shot off. Arcing Fire means she needs to be close to what ever is blocking the LoS.

Black Dragons will also be difficult for him to kill with shooting, unlike the Doomreavers. The Kovniks can get them up there while maintaining Shield Wall.

Spriggan and Behemoth give you some actual armor cracking. Doomreavers are ok at cracking armor, but not as much as you are facing.

Butcher 3 is an excellent drop against epic Haley. No action? *shrug* flashing blade. No charge? *energiser*. And dat feat! Only thing worse than butcher with 6 focus is butcher with 12 focus.

That said,last tine I bet epic Haley, it was via butcher 2 to the face. This was at the end of 'that' perfect butcher2 turn that legends speak of, where he rolls 7 focus and kills a whole army on his own.

Thanks for the input guys. I would have little trouble with eVlad or eIrusk, but the challenge was Butcher2 tier vs. his list. Gonna try the UA's, but i'm probably doomed (no pun intended). Guess I got a little too big for my britches. It's a good lesson in humility I guess lol. Strength in numbers doesn't always cut it when you're squishy and facing a gun line. Doesn't help that I always roll a 1 on dementia at the worst possible moments too.

Yup, you made a challenge you really just can't win unless his dice decide to revolt.

Yeah, eHaley sort of kicks all melee armies in the crotch pretty hard with her feat, and Cygnar in general positively loves going against single-wound low-arm dude-spam, as all those lightning arcs and covering fire templates get to really make an impact.

You could possibly win, of course, but it's just going to be an absolutely uphill battle. That's always an issue with taking heavy skew armies like the Butcher2 theme, and is one of the reasons steamroller lets you take two lists.

You could try just running all the doomreavers very wide on the flanks and try and spread them out massively to stop lightnings hurting to much, and to run and threaten Haley herself. Might not work, but it's worth a try.

Holy I did it! Ran UA's and a Juggernaut along with Reaver spam. Used the UA's CMD to really spread the doomies out. Pushed the Reavers up as meat shields, keeping Butcher and my Jack safe. The Juggernaut has Berserk due to bonding with the league, so it charged the Squire, killed it, then berserked on his caster. Was running MAT 8 due to Conferred Rage, so hit without too much trouble, then rolled BOX CARS on P+S 19! He was only sitting on two focus thanks to him casting Time Bomb on my caster, and loading up the storm wall with focus. It was mostly luck, but I'll take what I can get

Sometimes a bit of luck is all you need. Although I'd consider a different caster in future. Have you tried butcher 3 yet. He's gonna wreck a storm wall on his feat turn and live to tell the tale

Good idea charging the squire to get around set defense.
