I want to build a full size gaming board, but I've no idea where to start-

What do I use to landscape, cork or paper mache?

What do I use to paint the ground? (ultrabattles have some nice products called ultrbase, which I'm looking into)

What do make the tiles out of? MDF, plywood, foamboard, or other things? (My dad used to be a carpenter so he can probably help we with this)

How do I create a small oasis or pond (my board is going to be desert or urban themed)

Where do I buy terrain from? - I love GW terrain, but my wallet does not!

Thanks in advance!

All my home boards are made of a 6mm mdf base and strip wood for the sides. I then place styrene in the centre and carve out whatever shape you need.

For painting just go to your local DIY shop and find the reduced paints trolly(out of date paint, opened paint ect).Browns and greens are always available.

Make your own terrain from junk don't buy it

This link to Coolminiornot`s tutorial will get you started:

Styrofoam insulation board. Prime it with latex paint them spray with krypton texture spray. We have found cutting a 4x8 sheet into 2x2 tiles works really well for changing terrain. You can then take extra and carve into hills etc.
