Having been inspired by Panic's shipwreck casts, and having been asked by friends if I would make them a set of my asteroids, I thought I'd have a go at casting too. After a wee bit of trial and error, I now have a working mould for all six, with minimal mould lines and flash. It took a few casts, then tweaks, adding vents etc, then more casts to get all the asteroids coming out right, but I'm a happy bunny now.

Some pics below for those that like that sort of malarky.

Fantastic looking! Really well done, can't wait to see them on a table.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

That is great, getting a feel for casting and getting it right! I am not sure that asteroids are good subjects for it though... they are so, so easily created with foam insulation and other materials with equally pretty results... that, and that's a a lot of resin ($) and work for the result of an asteroid.

But, that is probably a fairly complex mold with some great lessons learned... why not turn your attention to things like custom ships or wrecks now that you have your sea legs?

It actually only works out at around £4-5 worth of resin, though it took about £40 of silicone for the mould, and I had some peeps wanting copies of the asteroids, so seemed a good starting project. Once my infinity board arrives from the games and gears kickstarter, I'm going to try and come up with modular hab units and buildings that I can cast en-mass. I like some of the mdf stuff out there, but it would cost an arm and a leg to fill a whole table, so I figure I'm as well tryin to do my own in resin.
