Hey guys new to dakka, and making a return to 40k with the release of the new edition. Anyway some friends and i have decided to make some 1000 point starter armies to get back into the swing of things and i thought this was a great opportunity to finally start a vanilla/ultramarine's list that I have always wanted to do. So i dont have much experience with the new codex, the last list i made was Blood Angels in 4th, so any advice you can give on the effectiveness/what needs to be dropped or changed would be much appreciated. I will be playing a variety of armies including imperial guard, tyranids, and tau. My list so far:
HQ
Captain
relic blade
artificer armour 135
Elites
Dreadnought
AC
drop pod 155
Sternguard x7
drop pod 226
Troops
Tac squad x10
flamer
ML
rhino 195
Tac squad x10
flamer
ML
rhino 195
Heavy Support
Predator
AC
HB sponsons 95
Total 1001
Tactics: the dreadnought and sternguard (accompanied by the captain) will drop pod behind/in the enemy DZ to disturb plans/kill some priority targets, while the rhinos move to objectives etc and the pred. for some support where needed.
The concerns i have with the list is there is probably not enough anti tank, especially since my friend will more than likely go tank heavy in his Imperial Guard list. And the HQ captain, not sure if its the best option.
In the future i will more than likely turn this into a 2000 point list.

I really only like using Full Drop Pod Lists, or Armour Spam lists. If you'd like to go down either of those paths, tell us.

Drop Pods are best used in odd numbers, as you get half in the first turn - in this case that means either the Dread or the Sternguard, leaving the single unit isolated to get ganged-up on. If you swap one of the Tac Rhinos for another DP, you'll get 2 (dread & sternies) on turn 1 ready to wreak havoc.
On this front I'd suggest a Multi-Melta on the dread, as you've not got much in the way of anti-tank.
I'm guessing the Tac squads will combat-squad, leaving the missile launchers holdign back-field objectives?

I would do the following:
-Libby
-2x Tactical Squad with Flamer, ML, Razorback w/ HB
-3x Dread w/ PF & MM in a DP
-Predator w/ HB & AC
995.
I think it is a pretty decent list, heavily relies on the Dreads to smash stuff turn one, then a third coming in turn two. You would combat squad the Tacticals, and use the RB to move them up. The remainder would stay back with the pred. You have 3 armor targets and three menacing Dreads, target priority would be a pain.

Your captain is out of place and your tactical squads are schizo phrenic, your also lacking a lot of AT
Drop the sternguard and bring a third tactical team (5 man) in a las razorback with a heavy at weapon a grav cannon would be ideal
Your tactical squads have long range missles and close range torrent flamers. Pick a way to expertise them and run with in. For example you could drop the ml's and get mm's or you could swap them for plasma or grav guns
Finally use the points your saving from sternguard on some more field armor. That leaves you about 70ish pts perfect for stuffing in a whirlwind spend remainder as you see fit
As for the captain I'd probably swap him for a level 2 librarian with terminator armor
Tactica:
Tactical marines take objectives with grav team getting dug into a piece of cover. Dread in reserve. Libby deepstrikes in to buddy up with a tac squad in a drop pod. The preds are fire support
If he comes in after you, on turn two onward try and get Billy badsh!t off the reserves bench to hurtle him to earth to wreck face
