I went through each page in the new rule book and couldn't find the rules or point values for a single fortification.

Even those useless dataslates in the back that have the plastic GW terrain kits have silly rules with no point values listed.

Are ADL's a thing of the past?

The rules for fortifications are in the stronghold book, sold separately.

But since the aegis is exactly the same in Stronghold as in the 6th rulebook, you can just keep a copy of the floppy on hand for it.

Not a thing of the past, but great news! You can now pay for the rules for ADL and other fortifications, in Stronghold Assault!

In a more serious note, the terrain in the rulebook is terrain that is placed before deployment, and doesn't belong to either army, or cost any points. Thus, it's available to every army, all the time.

The ADL and other things you pay points for have been reissued in Stronghold Assault. For those of us who already had them in 6th, it's kind of a ripoff (though the rules are updated and have more fortifications). For people who start with 7th, it makes a bit more sense. You don't have to use those options, and they have been moved to a separate book. In addition, the available fortifications are all Imperial (or corrupted Imperial) options, which means that Ork, Eldar, and particularly Tyranid players would see a lot less value to having them included in the main book.

(I know that you can take an Orky ADL, or an Orky Quad gun, but the model are Imperial, so I think that GW figures mostly only Imperials use them).

So if i just use the rules found in 6th edition for the ADL (and skyshield landing pad, and the basteel thing?) the rules and point values will be exactly the same?

I can't buy another book.

On that note i seriously wish they would stop giving imperials new stuff for abit and give things to xenos the imperials dont get for a change. Every single "expansion" has been Imperials and maybe 1 xeno possible. I wouldnt be surprised if in that fortification book they state "ADL Cannot be taken by nonimperial armies" or the other things too, since theyre imperial-based stuff. Which is supported by the ork rumor that the orks are getting their own fortification.

Imperial Knights is another horrible example of this. Yes, lets give the armies that already have access to just about everything exclusive access to a game-breaking unit that isnt even faction bound technically.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Check out kromlech mini's, they have a lovely orky aegis and quad gun coming soon ( if its not out already ).

Back OT, yeah, Stronghold is the place to look for the rules.

Fortifications will now count as a faction. You can only use the fortifications if you are battle brothers with that faction and only Imperium gets battle brothers.

Joking aside, that was rather disappointing when I read through it initially. 6th throwing in some generic fortifications to use was nice and they had a massive book for sale later on if you wanted to run more. Now you need to use the massive book if you want to run them. One of the problems I had with 6th was that it could quickly turn into a game of book keeping. 7th does not stop or try to curb this trend at all.

Want to play 40k? Get the brb and an army book. Then the supplement. Then an ally. Then the allies supplement. Then Escalation for Lords of War. Then SA if you want a simple ADL. Then don't forget to try and include any FW or dataslates. You only have 7 books to tote around right now. You'll be needing at least 9 if you want to really forge a narrative.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

if the individual books werent insanely expensive, i wouldnt care. Quite frankly i'd RATHER have the black-and-white paperback pieces of junk that my Ork codex is currently made of - because i bought the damn thing for next to nothing! The process to make these fancier books doesnt hurt their wallet as much as people think, but it gives them an excuse to double prices.

Its like ~400USD+ for the books alone, and thats excluding more than your initial race's codex/supplement.

The rules for the Aegis and the Bastion and the majority of fortifications are all still in the 6th edition floppy rulebook. Nothing preventing people from using that, aside from the instinctual urge to complain on the internet.

Depends on who youre facing. My orks have gotten gak many times for using dakkajet rules from the WD rather than Death From the Skies. I refuse to buy an expensive book for "up to date" rules for a single model that i KNOW nothing changed on other than Flya Boss, as its worded now, includes fliers while before it didnt.
No idea if the fortification rules changed for each building, or the costs. But, outside tournaments, who brings ADL anyway since people usually look down at people who use them.

I wouldn't care if someone ripped the pages out of their mini rulebook and used the Forts listed there. They do cost the same points as they do in Stronghold, just without the wacky Stronghold additions you can pay for and don't know about.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And my Vengeance Weapons Batteries came with their rules IN THE BOX! Just add in Small Building type for 3 Hull points, and voila.

WarGamma has Aegis for all the factions. The pieces are resin and cost about $44, about 150% of the GW Aegis.. They call their Ork stuff "Cro-Mag." I have both the Cro-Mag and Spawn Hive wall sets, which each include a thematic quad-gun, and am very pleased with them.

Unless you play in a GW store, like me, which means you aren't allowed to use it. Scratch-built is fine, but competitor models aren't allowed.

Any games outside that store, though, I'm fine, but since most of them are in the store...
