So I'm confused what the debate is about here. In my digital copy of codex: Inquisition (It's there that OP is drawing his rules from, right?) it states that the bearer of the null rod (and his unit) can not be targeted by psychic powers. Doesn't say anything about affected, so I would assume that you couldn't direct a witchfire attack at them but that they would still have to roll 6's to hit versus invisible units.
