The GK FAQ say that combat squads have to be determined before warlord traits and are two separate units for all game purposes including total number of units in the detachment....

Does that mean you can't have more than 3 units that combat squad in a CAD? (ie: maxing your troops for that detachment?)

No such language exists in the SM FAQ, so are they still allowed to have 12 troops in a single CAD? (6 total that are combat squad'ed?)

At the time you make the list, you have 6 x 10-man squads. What happens afterwards has no bearing on the list legality.

I disagree. They said All Game Purposes and even clarified that this includes "number of units in the detachment".

The only time the number of units matters is in whether the list meets the legalities of a the force chart.

So, taking your example, you build a list with 6 x 10-man squads. That is good for a battle forged army. However, before doing warlord traits you declare that they are combat squadding. The way I read this your battle forged army just became unbounded....

Except what tells you to determine if your army is Battle Forged or Unbound at any time other than list construction? Or are you saying that if your army gets reduced to a single combat squad due to casualties it suddenly becomes Unbound as well?
