Hello, so I have maybe 1,500-2,000 points in nids and am starting to acquire a chaos army. I am not only new to chaos but have just started actually playing 40k with my nids and I don't want to F up my chaos list like I did with my nids lol love them and are still fun but there a couple WYSIWYG problems I'm working on. Anyway I'd appreciate the help with lists for a chaos space marine army. One at 1,000-1,500 and one at 2,000-2,500. I will be having a Black Legion army!

What are you interesting in using for your army, other than Black Legion?

Do you like Abaddon n his harbingers? Do you like Chosen Spam? Or do you just like paying votlw taxes?

Anyway I think Abaddon is awesome but could his cost really be justified in a 1,000-2,500 point game?

Not 100% sure what I want to field, I'm thinking a mix. My nids are obviously an assault army so I'd like my CSM to be more shooty but I don't want it to just be noise marines so my thoughts were centered more on a bit if this a bit of that, so to speak. Also I haven't heard much about Chaos tanks, are they not worth it or something?

Abaddon has his own squad of terminator body guards. For an extra 30 points you can have WS5 BS5 termies who more expensive and just as useless as regular terminators (except they'll eat the wounds for Abaddon to get into close combat.) Abaddon will eat pretty much every character in close combat. But he will eventually die. then you'll find you probably wasted 265 points.

In 6th I ran a Bringers of Decay (Nurgle Black Legion) with a Nurgle Spineshiver Lord as a distraction unit. People are terrified of an Initiative 6 AP3 daemon weapon. They will try to kill it while your hellturkies (Need to have more than 1 after 7th Ed errata), Obliterators, and Plague Marines eat everything else.

In 7th Ed your are going to want a sorcerer just because of the greater emphasis on Psychers. I stopped and just run a regular Nurgle now (Typhus and unmarked level 3 sorcerer).

Chosen are cool in that they can carry 4 special weapons. But they will die. And they will die quickly. Most likely not paying for themselves. Not worth.

Stick with plagues, noise, or thousand sons as troops. Dont be afraid to bring a cultist ball to hold your back field objectives.

Soooo the true question is: are you going to field a supplement black legion or a regular csm force from the standard dex?
If you're going for the first you should know some (bad) news about it:
Votlw tax: all the models able to take it MUST take it: the worst from this supplement imo.
Chosen spam: chosen are troops in a black legion army, they can take 4 special weapons or 5 special ccw buuuuut so many points... 20 for a naked chosen.... Then add weapons.....then add transport.....meh
Abaddon's chosens: 30 points for an unit of ws bs 5 termies?! Ahahahahahahah no!!
Special tools: awful... Apart from the skull...

So if you're gonna run this list there are 3 possibilities:
1- you're going for the classic cultist-hellturkey-oblits list (in that case using the supplement doesn't make so much sense)
2- you're going for the bg (handshake and high five, i live for the bg )
3- you hate so much chaos that you want to lose with them, because you know.... You're gonna lose...

For a classic army i'd suggest you to play what you prefer or one of the list that you can find somewhere in the forum. If you want try also the crimson massacre supplement, is not that bad (don't you dare taking possessed!) play 'em as black legion and that's all.
Once i saw a good black legion list: it was an average army, its strenght focused on some khorne chosen squads (5 atks on charge)...

Well S**t, I'm f****d like a stray turkey on thanksgiving! So I can either be a d**k and run 4 drakes (I heard you could add a extra fast, or heavy with blacke legion supplement) or have another completely uncompetitive army! Despite there relative uselessness, lol, where's a good place to start looking for lists of black legion armies? Also don't know if this helps in your opinions on a possible list but I do have the dataslats for Chaos.
