Battle Report: Ruins of Aurelia
Type: 750 points Slay the Heretic
Armies:
- Space Marines: Strike Force "Penitent"
- Chaos Daemons: Tzeentch's Host

Story: Arriving out of the Maelstrom, the Penitent are perished of fuel and ammunition and are to resupply the fleet above the agricultural world of Aurelia Secondus. As the resupply begins the fleet hears word of a Warp Gate opening on the planet's surface. Immediately it is evident the foul daemons of the Warp have followed the Penitent out of the Maelstrom. First Captain Tollok sends down two of his most trusted Tactical Squads, squad Th'ul and Lyons to investigate and close the warp gate. As the Marines land on the surface all hell begins to break loose...

The battle:

As the two squads land they bear witness to a most evil sight. The skies are full of Tzeentchian Screamers, decending and attacking the populace. Realising the gravity of the situation, Veteran Sargeant Lyons orders both squads to take up defensive positions in the ruins of a nearby town. As they duck into buildings the circling Screamers notice the Astartes' presence and begin their attack. Squad Lyons ans Th'ul unleash the wrath of their weapons into the swarm of hellspawn attacking them, slaying three of the foul beasts. The Screamers swarm towards Squad Th'ul, who desperately fire into the swarm, hoping to stop the creatures getting too close. As hard as they try the Astartes are unable to slay any Screamers with their bolters, instead being forced to take on the Daemons in close combat with only their knifes and pistols. The Space Marines slay three more screamers with their knifes before the hellspawn strike back, the former house becomes a bloody mess as the bringers of change massacre the Space Marines. Only three Battle-Brothers survive the assault, and regroup with Squad Lyons in the other building. The thirteen remaining Astartes lay waste to the group of screamers that slayed their bretheren, slaying all but one of the beasts. Yet as the Space Marines reload their bolters even more Tzeentchian Screamers assault their position. Veteran Sargeant Lyons sends a communication to Captain Taalok, informing him of the heavy casualties they are taking and requesting assistance. As the next swarm of Screamers gets near to the Marine's position they finally get their aid. The Captain himself and his Vanguard Veteran Squad descend from the heavens to assist their brothers. The Screamers continue their assault, and eventually are able to break the Astartes' defenses and get inside. Yet more Battle Brothers fall to the Daemons, but take several more screamers with them. The Astartes are, for once, on the run. Captain Taalok and his retinue fight their way through even more deamons in an attempt to reach their Brothers, losing one Veteran in the process though another group of Screamers is slaughtered in return. Meanwhile, at the outskirts of the town, the remnants of the Squad Lyons and Th'ul attempt to push forward and reach their captain but a Chariot intercepts them and several more astartes are incinerated instantly. Captain Taalok and Squad Gaius fights his an even larger swarm of Screamers, though they fight their hardest and slay even more screamers all the Vanguard Veterans are slain by the end of the storm, leaving only the Captain alive. The remaining three Tactical Marines, Sargeant Lyons included, take up their positions for their final stand atop a hill outside the town, awaiting their inevitible doom. Finally the Screamers come for them and though they fight valiantly, they are finally cut down where they stand. With nothing else to slay the remaining Screamers all turn to the Captain. Preparing himself, he harnesses all his rage to avenge his brothers. He charges into the Tzeenchian creations head on, slaying four outright before the deamons strike back. Eventually the endless attacks break the Captain and he is left gravely wounded. As the battle comes to an end several Astartes aircraft descend from the sky, causing the Daemons to scatter around in confusion. As the craft land apothercaries descend onto the battlefield, collecting the geneseed and bodies of the fallen and providing medical assistance to the wounded Captain, despite his insistence he be killed for his failure to avenge the brothers lost under his command. Over the next several weeks the Strike Force attempted to wrestle control of the planet from the forces of Chaos, but to no avail. Bloodied, Scarred and vengeful the Strike Force Penitent continues to try and make contact with other Imperial Forces and await their fate.

Decisive victory for the Chaos Daemons!

Lessons learned: Dont spend too many points on one unit, employ variety to your forces.

I read the wall. Split it up.

I liked the report though, rather entertaining. Sounds like a small list though, maybe 750 points?

I like the idea of a narrative battle and I think you executed the descriptive part well. My recommendation would be to split it up into more discernible paragraphs and maybe throw some pictures in as well (who doesn't like pictures )

If you want some ideas I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Pyres of Petod (sp?) by Thor665. They are a really entertaining read and might prove a good example of what I mean.

But definitely keep going with the narrative reports. You have a knack for bringing them to life.
