If an invisible SM tac squad is behind another tac squad that isnt and the front one takes a template hit, can the invisible ones behind it get hit by the template if it goes far enough?

Long story short, yes it can hit them if its targeted against the non invis squad. It can overlap into them, and it can scatter onto them, you simply cannot target that squad.

He means you can't just graze one guyin the non-invis unit in order to hit as many in the invis unit.

You are required to hit as many models in the targeted unit as you possibly can. With targeted vehicles, you even have to cover as much of the vehicle with the template as physically possible.
