Subject: Daemon List Where to Start?
|
 |
Hardened Veteran Guardsman
|
Hi guys I want to start a daemon army but I have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER where to start, consensus seems to be Nurgle and Tzeentch are good khorne and slaanesh are meh situational but I have no idea where to start, my rough idea is:
20 plaguebearers
20 Horrors
10 bloodletters
and... no idea what else.
Please give me some suggestions guys, I want it to be a competitive list with a mix of gods but not a powergaming list I just want to have fun and occasionally win.
Thanks in advance guys! Automatically Appended Next Post: Probably get some screamers in there...

Fateweaver and Be'Lakor are a must. Since psykers are so powerful in 7th, and they are two of the mpst powerful psykers in the game. Tzeentch heralds, horrors and soulgrinders are all awesome. Combine a gliding daemon prince and invisiblity to allow it to assault when it wants.

Ah yes fateweaver is on my list, do you know any good ways to counter the instant death problem now they no longer have eternal warrior?

I generally roll 3 powers from biomancy on the dp in hope of eith iron arm or endurance or both. Fateweaver gets a roll on biomancy too butI always use the grimoire on him using his re-roll if I fail for a 2++ re-rollable Be'Lakor has eternal warrior. So yea its not to hard to combat considering only strength 10 will cause instant death its not to much of a worry as theres not a ton of it around and it mainly is blasts which dont effect us when we are swooping or invisible.

Ah okay so far I like the sound of screamers and horrors with plaguebearers soaking up the fire fateweaver looks awesome, painting him and lords of change seems a bit daunting and there are no guides anywhere in the world!

Start your list around your psykers. Heralds with mastery levels, Greater daemons with mastery 3 etc, Daemon princes etc. Soulgrinders are awesome. An aegis with quadgun for flyers.
And no khorne.

...this guy has not graduated to 7e yet. In 6e, Tzeentch was very powerful: Psyker FMCs swooping around, nigh invincible.
Now, both Psykers AND FMCs have taken a serious nerf from the new rules.
FMCs: worse Vector Strike, worse Smash Attack, can't assault for a full turn after Swooping. They are much more difficult to use now, and more vulnerable.
Psykers:
In 6e, at Ld10, a power was 91.66% likely to succeed, before DtW. Blessings could NOT be denied, making Iron Arm, Endurance, Prescience, Precognition, and the rest very likely to work.
If I had 10 PMLs in my army, there was ~42% chance that all 10 power would work. So they probably wouldn't ALL work, but there's still a chance. And any individual result had a 92% chance. And I would cast 7-10 powers, as most were WC1, with a few WC2.
In 7e, Ld doesn't matter. Now it's all about the WC. This makes it more difficult to directly compare the statistics of the two in mass, but we can still easily compare 1:1.
A PML1 Psyker will get D6+1 dice for psychic stuff. Let's say he wants to Iron Arm himself, and he rolls average on the power of the Warp, 3. In 6e, there was a 91.66% chance he would pass, with a 5.56% chance of Perils. Now, he must hope for 4+ on at least one die. If using one die, that chance is 50%. WOW, that's a lot lower than before! What about if I use ALL my dice? On 4 dice (PML1+roll), that's a 93.75% chance to pass, with a 12.81% Perils. Same pass rate, with Perils chance more than doubled. And that pass rate is BEFORE you factor in DtW, which lowers blessings a bit, and Maledictions/Witchfire quite considerably.
Trying to cast WC2 and WC3 powers? Insanely difficult, from a statistical perspective.

Maybe an FAQ will boost him I dunno? Automatically Appended Next Post: I dunno i've never played daemons before, had my death company destroyed by a single lord of change (epic fail) but that's the limit of my experience

i play demons, and i played them in 5th and all through 6th.
some pointers from my perspective:
most khorne units are awful, the other three gods.have better units all around. fateweaver is very good for demons, he controls alot of the random. you get a re roll for the warpstorm table from his warlord trait. he also allows you to reroll one dice in your turn, and opponents. use the reroll for the grimorie to give him a 2++.
don't use princes now, they're terrible. so you're going to need heralds to buy a grimorie. that's your two hqs for demons. then fill your troops with horrors, plague bearers, and demonettes. fast attack khornedogs are really good, so are seekers.
heavy support go with the amazing soulgrinders, they will wreck shop.
you also need be'lakor, so either ally in csm or take a second demons CAD. belakor is such a good piece in game, I'd even go as far as to say he's more valuable than fateweaver. but that's my opinion for my play style. i would use fateweaver starting out as a new player to demons, because he helps control alot of random.
good luck!!

Be'Lakor+Fate weaver is 650. If heralds take the list pas 1,000 points in HQ it's not competitive.
The best units are blue scribes, soul grinders, fateweaver, belakor, Tzeentch heralds, flesh hounds, pink horrors, deamonettes.
Personally I would stick to fateweaver, 1 or 2 heralds, the blue scribes, pink horrors for troops, and double cad 6 soul grinders or 4 if your store plays 2nd cad is allies instead.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Fateweaver's viability in many lists took a hit in 7th. He will cast less spells per turn, vector strike got nerfed and no access to summoning (I don't think it has been FAQ'd).
He is also weaker because a unit he unlocked has become weaker. Tzeentch DPs formed the centre of many Flying Circus armies. Now that such lists have been nerfed, fateweaver too has been nerfed.
Another problem with fateweaver is that he must be protected at all times. Grimoire or shrouded are must haves on him. Before this was more manageable due to the ease of casting psychic powers and Be'lakor auto having invisibility.
Of course he still changes the warpstorm table, provides 4 power dice a turn, and can be hard to kill. But at his points cost is he now worth it?

All fateweaver needs is cursed earth and to stay in flight mode.
He provides less this edition, but the entire army can implode from a warpstorm without him and the grim will backfire very frequently.
damned if you do damned if you don't.

I've seen lots of debates on if Fateweaver provides 4 or 8 dice. Depending on how your local group plays he very well be worth the points

It's pretty clear that he provides only 4 , it's literally outright stated in his profile that he only provides 4 Warp Charge.
I am on the fence with Fateweaver, as now if you are Battleforged you can reroll your Warlord trait and possibly get his same ability.
However I do think he's crazy good but sometimes can be to expensive.
I think having Belakor and him in the same list is to high of an investment.

i agree, i prefer be'lakor. haven't really needed Fateweaver.
I've also been taking a CAD of csm, to get a sorcerer cheap cultist and a Helldrake, and use this as my primary to just avoid the warpstorm table altogether.

I've done that as well, but feel that it's to restrictive as I like taking multiple H. Support options.
I feel like if I do that I to severly limit my ability to put pressure on my opponent on the first turn.
