So it looks to me like the RAW suggest that drop-pods are now scoring. Immobilised vehicles still seem to be capable of scoring as far as I can tell, and there is no exceptions listed in the SM FAQ. This seems odd so I thought I'd double check with you folks online first.

I realise that it doesn't seem very OP in the context of there will be a squad that immediately disembarks who could score anyway, but when you are up against Interceptor squads like broadsides, it's an important point. Not to mention for the Eternal War mission it's a huge deal, as it means if the opponent doesn't want you to hold an objective at the end of thegame he needs to blow up your drop pod, even when its passengers are long dead / elsewhere on the battlefield.

That does seem to be the current RAW for drop pods. Which I think adds a level of flavor to them. Back in 6th ed, there was no reason to shoot at a drop pod... once it came in, the troops inside were out on the field, so any interceptor shots where better used on them. And the only thing it did was fire one bolter, which is a minor annoyance at best, and not worth the effort of wasting fire to destroy the thing. The only reason you ever had to shoot a drop pod was if you happened to be playing a kill points mission.

Now you can get a bit more tactical... do I plant the drop pod on an objective marker, or put it where the guys inside can do the most damage? And force your opponent to actually destroy the thing if they don't want you getting those points. I like it.

I also like the change,
While I was never objective minded, and it costs me many a game, I have always found it unusual that the Unit Type mattered. Personally, I would consider an objective with an Enemy Tank on it to be just as 'contested' without requiring the men inside to actually get out so they can be literally on the ground. If anything, I would be a lot more worried about a Land Raider sitting on the objective point then a group of half-naked and pistol equipped Cult members that happen to be standing next to it, and never agreed that I should be able to consider the point 'well and truly ours' while my Troops where leaning against the tread of said still-running LandRaider.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

Do dedicated transports for Troops also have the Objective Secured rule? Or just the Troops?

If not, then the Pod could at least be easily contested, and objective scored, by a small Troops squad. Of course considering Troops come out of Pods, I think that could be tough to deal with.

Luckily, Nurglings have Objective Secured now, and they're CHEAP, with Infiltrate too
