So I wanted to try dark eldar, and my friend let me borrow his and he used my space marines to play a game. The lists were as follows:

Dark Eldar:
Succubus w/hydra gauntlets
5 wynches
5 wynches
5 kabalite warriors

3 kabalite true born with 2 splinter cannons, blaster
3 kabalite true born with 2 splinter cannons, blaster

3 reaver

raider with chain snares and splinter racks

Space marines:

Captain with bolt gun
tactical squad with missle launcher (5 man)
tactical squad (9 man)

terminator squad

I got first turn and my true born pretty much tore through his second tactical squad. I had my reavers charge the first squad, but the whole squad was destroyed in overwatch instantly.

Did I use the reavers wrong? Are they supposed to dive a small squad? Or did I just get unlucky with the rolls?

I won in the end thanks to night fighting, and my succubus wrecked his captain (although I got really lucky with the hyrda gauntlets)

So far I love dark eldar, but I'm just a bit confused on how I should use reavers.

Don't charge with reavers. CC monsters they are not!

Either zoom around bladevaning the enemy, ot use them as vehicle assassins.

I run units for 6 with heat lances or blasters as assassins, looking to get up close to a LR or similar and take it out.

A full squad flying over a unit, especially with upgrades, can also make a mess, and be on the other side of the battlefield when they are looking to retaliate,

Reavers have multiple roles in a DE army, but they arent made for CC. You can assault weak Units in some situations but normally you use their turbo-boost-fly-over-attack (Blade vanes) and Speed to cause a lot of trouble in positions youre enemy dont expect. Well with a 48" Range he should expect them everywhere. You can also use a 9 man squad with 3 blasters or heat Lances to go after tanks or heavy troops with 2+ armor. They can move, shoot and get back into cover, if everything works fine.

With the new jink rules you get a 3+ coversave, that doesnt effect the efficiency of their blade vane attack.

Keep them out of CC and take at least 6. You ll love those guys once you know how to use them right.

Oh that would make sense, I won't use them to assault again!

Since it was such a small game I knew I wouldn't be able to fit in more then three, but I really wanted to try them anyways. Thanks for the advice!

I attach a jetseer and roll on divination.

If you can get perfect timing and misfortune those bladevane attacks are monstrous.
