Lol. Still continuing with the idiotic "no FW" rules I see. It's funny how an event that accepts most of the 7th edition changes without any house rules about psykers or whatever can still be stuck in 4th edition on this one subject. I mean, FFS, you're even allowing superheavies in your event just because they have the magic "codex" word on them.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I have to agree - the FW restriction doesn't really make any sense.

Looks good, I would try to get some sample missions out a good few weeks before lists are due.

Just for comedy value, here's a quote from the TO on the local store forum:

Some players may disagree with my choice to have so few restrictions on army creation or abilities, and I certainly did not arrive at this decision lightly. My goal is to explore the full 7th edition experience with as few restrictions as possible. To quote FDR, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

So I guess "the full 7th edition experience" really consists of "the full experience of my personal version of 7th edition that bans everything I don't like about GW's version".

If you don't like his tourney...you don't have to play. There's a lot of unnecessary rancor in your posts, almost as if you have a grudge against him personally....
Also, you should note that he did mention there are SOME restrictions...just not more than he thought was necessary. You may disagree with his restrictions...but since he's the TO, you either respectfully discuss them, or don't play. Don't just whine online about it.

As to the TO's concern about Daemon Factory, I feel that a lot of the knee-jerk fear about such a list comes from the Frontline BatRep.
After reviewing the Frontline BatRep, I calculated the chances that he would succeed on his series of Summoning rolls, as presented in T1 of the video:
Summoning, 6d6, passes; Summoning, 6d6, passes; Summoning, 6d6, passes; Summoning, 5d6, passes; Summoning, 5d6, passes; Summoning, 5d6, passes.
The chances of that is 3.53%. This is a VERY RARE occurrence. His dice were hot in a statistically unlikely manner.

Speaking from personal experience, I've yet to get off 1/3 of the powers I try for in a game. That's right, I fail about 2/3 of the time (with GK and Daemons, ~20WC each). Perhaps my dice are unlucky...but still, it's nothing to be scared over.

I've included a chart showing the likelihood of casting powers. When studied, it does do a lot to allay the fear over Clown Car.

The point is that I want to play in this event, but the TO has decided to impose ridiculous rules on what units/armies are allowed (primarily because some elements of the community are obnoxious TFGs and threaten to ragequit if their bans aren't enforced).

There's a lot of unnecessary rancor in your posts, almost as if you have a grudge against him personally....

That's because I do. The TO in question has ruined previous events with his bad policies, and I want him to stop doing it.

Also, you should note that he did mention there are SOME restrictions...just not more than he thought was necessary.

The exact quote was "as few restrictions as possible". This is not as few restrictions as possible, this is arbitrary bans on stuff that there is no good reason to ban. Calling it a full 7th edition tournament is a joke.

Peregrine, I wouldn't take your frustrations out here, I doubt it benefits your case at any rate.

I agree, personally. why is there a reason to ban FW? I mean, changing a few things about forgeworld units, sure, but for the most part forgeworld is harmless or at the very most, equivalent to the rules of some of the more ridiculous codexes.

I'm not involved in this event in the slightest, so my opinion matters little, but it strikes me that that is an unreasonable ban to place on the game, personally.

I went once before. If I read it correctly it bans Escalation (LoW) and the armor 15 stuff in Stronghold Assault as well. Between all the bans and seeing how much in proxies were allowed in the past, I uunfortunately will not be attending this year.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

And void shields, for some bizarre reason. It's like they're rolling dice to see what is banned.

(Hey, an idea for 8th edition! Forge The Narrative with a random table of banned units/codices/etc to roll on before each game!)

This is actually not a bad idea. Randomly eliminate sections of the rules to make the game more challenging in a tournament setting. Of course, the bane happens before people bring their models.
