Looking for a varnish that won't dull my colors to death or be nigh impossible to remove.

Nothing more fun than tabling an opponent

Any matte varnish is going to dull colors somewhat, it's what they do. That said, Testor's Dullcote is probably the best in the business.

And why would you want to remove the varnish?

If you actually want to be able to remove it - look at archival varnishes. They are actually designed to be able to be removed from paintings if need be. Golden makes an excellent one.

I can only share my experience with citadel purity seal because that was the only one I found.

There are bad reviews if you google about it but so far it has been fine for me. Short bursts was sufficient. No clouding at all. Just control the burst I guess.

I do 4 short bursts per model, on the 4 facings.

Oh, I see. If you want to strip any of the varnishes listed, Superclean will do the job with no problem.

You can try Vallejo's Satin Varnish. It's what I use. The Emperor's Children model in my gallery shows that the metal still keeps its shine after the varnish. Satin will give a slight shine to the model, but nowhere near a gloss varnish.

"You listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks
