With the new maelstorm mission cards discouraging immobile gunlines, is the ADL Really ever worth it in a sub 2k point game?

Do you need it for AA? Now that everything scores, you can still try to place an objective in each deployment area so you can wall it off with an ADL and place a heavy support choice on it. You'll still need some long range shooting to support your other units as they advance. Its not a bad choice, but certainly not something to build an army around. It needs to fill a niche you're not filling elsewhere in the list.

Indeed and playing a gunline in friendly matches with maelstrom is asking to lose, your going to get bad cards and he will get useful ones in large quantities and he will score and you will be SoL
Tau and ig gunlines are dead in casual play, their just not feesable, your playing at that point to table, and tabling is hard if cover abounds

Who says ADL have to be in your deployment zone? I place ADLs in the center of the map all the time when playing DKoK. Move up to it and you can control huge areas of the map. If you know you can get to an objective before an enemy, just place an ADL near it and run some inf squads to it.
'Gunlines' arent necessarily static. Especially IG gunlines, since they have things like russes that are incredibly tough and move 6" for free every turn. Over a few game turns you can cross half the map easily it take more central objectives.

I thought 7th edition forced you to deploy static defenses in your deployment zone now?

they did, however you deploy it when you deploy all your units instead of during the terrain setup phase.

I do sometimes wonder if the GW design process was -
Hey look, all these players that order Tau etc normally have never ordered any of the fliers we make for those armies but have ordered Aegis lines.... lets change that.
