Looking at the warlord rules, I can't find any requirement that your warlord needs to be chosen from the HQ section. The only restriction seems to be that he must be a character model (as long as you have one). This has me wondering about potential alternate warlords... - Ogryn Bone 'Ead as a warlord - Ministorum Priests as warlords - IG sargeants as warlords - Enginseers as warlords - Commissars (who don't have the chain of command special rule!) as warlords - Primaris Psykers as warlords Not saying that these are great ideas, but it's gotten me wondering, especially so I get my warlord out of squishy CCS units and don't have to buy the expensive Lord Commissar. For example, I'm thinking of a lvl 2 Primaris Psyker with biomancy and rolling on the personal traits for warlord traits (imagine fearless and iwnd). Put him in front of a squad of thirty conscripts with a ministorum priest, and that could be pretty deadly.

Brother Corbulo as a Warlord. Finally!!
On the other hand, having a TH/SS Terminator as your Warlord isn't as bad as one would think...
One wound only, yeah that sucks but choose your targets and hope that your WL trait benefits him and his squad.
Alright, just toying around with ideas. I believe that sooner or later someone will find a way to make this awesome and working by making Riptide your Warlord or something similar.
But for now, I think I'll actually use this in smaller games.

I'm starting to really like the idea of Nork Deddog as a warlord. T5 W3 with preferred enemy and a thunderous headbutt for the enemy warlord.

I'm most excited about using a Broadside Shas'vre with the Advanced Targeting System and a Heavy Rail Rifle as my Warlord. With the battleforged bonus of rerolling the Warlord trait you get a good chance of landing the trait that models can't make Look Out Sir rolls against his shots, and with Precision Shots on a 5+, twin linked BS3, you can just snipe out Power Fists and double out multi-wound T4 models from 60". Stick him in a squad of Broadsides with HYMP and Target Locks and you don't even lose much efficiency from the squad, and you can target something nasty each turn to neuter the army down to something you want to face.
Stick the whole thing in a Bastion and you've got a durable, fun warlord that frees you up to use Commanders and other HQ choices much more aggressively without Slay the Warlord hanging over your head.
Props to Innerwolf over on Advanced Tau Tactica for pioneering this idea, I'm psyched to test it out.

a runtherd in a unit of 30 grots. keep them at the back and go nuts with the warbosses!
I'd also almost be inclined to use a painboy in a bikernob mob. he'll decline all challenges without worrying, 2 wounds, T5, FNP and surrounded by nobs as a bodyguard.

Doesn't your opponent decide which character sits out when you decline a challenge?
