Hello I'm new to 40k this is my first model I've seen and read a couple of tutorials on painting Dark angels,
I'll be buying the DV boxset with the new rules I'm just getting practice in before I get it.
I'm happy with my first attempt but I can't help but think I've went a bit to far with the highlights,
any comments would be helpful so I know what I'm doing
thank you.

Mix your highlighting colour with lahmia medium or other dillute medium. This will make the highlight more transparent which makes blending it into background colour easier and.you will have less.stark.contrast between background and highlight colour.

also don't highlight all the way along a surface.e.g. Shoulderpad trim, instead just put a dollop of highlight in the middle or.create a smooth gradient with the lightest spot in the middle.

I'll try that on my next one
I just highlighted every edge and it looks to much haha
It's a learning curve, thanks for the info

It is good to see you already working on highlights so early on, and the model is looking very good for a first attempt.

To expand on aboves already good advice, with highlights you are trying to represent light reflections on the armour so what you want to do is while you painting have a lamp always in the same place.

And see where the light catches the models base coat, if you can't see put your closed fist where the model is and see where the light falls and try to replicate that effect on your highlights.

Always do nice thin straight lines, going good so far mate.

Letting my old Blog die till I got more pictures sorted, it will be back up next weekend.

But feel free to check out my pictures at:

^^^ this
Highlights will only come from light sources so try to think where light would naturally be hitting the model

Thanks for the advice everyone,
So highlights are based on light reflection? I thought it was to bring the colour out in the model
excellent ill keep that in mind with the next ones I do then get my head round the rules!
Thanks again
