Hello,

I would like to ask for your recommendation for campaign setup for 2 novice players. We have noticed that playing skirmishes without context has it's limitations and we would like to have some 'upper level' to the gameplay, something the battles would affect and vice versa.

I have the Planetary Empires box (+two Hive Cities) in the mail, in case those come in handy.

We have playtested a couple rulesets of our own design (by using papers-scissors-rocks to resolve combats), but we have not managed to come up with anything satisfactory. The biggest issue seems to be to find the balance on how the metagame (played on the tileset) affects the battles, and how the battle results are carried back to the campaign board with suitable balance; we do not wish to totally tip the scales after first combat, but at the same time some sort of feedback is necessary to give the battles any meaning.

Our biggest limitation is time available; we can spend about one Sunday per month on the game, so, ideally, the metagame could perhaps even include some play-by-email components?

I am willing to listen give thought to any ideas, no matter how outside the box they may appear.

I'm working on the same thing here, we have a group of about 10 players. The whiz thread looks incredibly interesting and it seems like they've figured out many of the glitches.
