I was wondering with the 50% rule lifted for reserves in 7th edition. Will Blood Angels' Descent of Angels build be making a comeback?

You still have to be worried about losing at the bottom of T1, due to not having any models on the table.

But if you include some droppods and go second you can effectively force your opponent to forego one round of shooting. I assume the 'no models = tabled' is for a game turn rather than a player turn?

Well, descents of angels are definitely better than in the 6th ed.

Although, the glaring problem of not having enough models to hold its own remains.

So DoA is back on then?

Although with the new vehicle damage table it seems a shame not to take advantage of our fast vehicles...

Some kind of hybrid, jump-mech-drop pod list would work really well, but I suspect our dex is still too pointy to do that type of list justice.

Indeed, I think that a hybrid list would be the best of both worlds, Razorback/ Drop Pod spam and jump pack spam.

Such a list gives you more options to act and react in a competitive setting.

With the loss in effectiveness of psychic-buffed Deathstars, I can't imagine we will see anything other than a surge in high durability Troops choices, and the loss of minimum sized deckchairs which were the only thing Assault Marines really fought against well.

A mix of podded Sternguard, podded Tacticals, and Jump Infantry can probably work fairly well.

Also, Flamestorm Baal Predators just might be the wave of the future. MEQ biker lists only got stronger this edition and nothing removes handfuls of bikers quite like S6, AP3 templates. Combine that with being able to hit models in Open Topped vehicles and you've got a recipe for lots of dead Dark Eldar, too.

Not to mention Orks in their open topped vehicles when the new dex hits.

What power tree are people thinking for our mandatory Libby HQ, the 25 pt discount on lvl 2 is nice but losing the codex powers hurt. Biomancy has some nice Witchfire choices which can really help our assault squads at mid range, but I'd be interested to hear other peoples thoughts on the most effective power trees for the BA.

Any bonuses to the BA are welcome in my book. I haven't been following along very closely--don't have the new rules yet even--but am glad to hear that my dusty BA might be coming off the shelf at some point.

5000 pts High Elves 4000 pts, Warriors of Chaos 4000 pts, Dwarfs 3000 pts, Wood Elves and Greenskins too

I use BA with counts-as models, and I think it'll be nice to deploy a few predators for heavy support choices and then land the troops later. It would be hard to kill an AV13 wall in this edition.

This is actually a good idea to deploy the AV13 wall from the start and let the jump packers move in later to removing target with their special weapons.
Add in Corteaz and 2 Psybacks with 2 Acolyths and 1 Psyker for the spell phase.

Mass AV13 was valid in 6th. Baals, fast Vindi's, fast Preds and furiosos dropping in can put alot of AV13 in your opponents face turn 1.

Fast rhinos and assault marines jumping around give BA good versatile in getting to objectives. As I said before though, everything is still very pointy, so making a decent TAC list will be tough, but I think 7th will breath some live into our old dex whilst we wait for the new one.

AV13 seems better this edition, so using that to maintain board presence while dropping in pods/jump packs seems like a solid strategy. Maybe pod melta with beacons, jump vets and baal preds?

I'm entirely underwhelmed by Librarians in this edition. You don't get enough Warp Charge to reliably cast anything more than Lv1 powers unless you take extra psykers just to power your Librarian. In addition, armies in Grey Knights, Eldar, Daemons, and Tyranids will bury you in DtW dice.

I'm digging the Reclusiarch and Tycho right now. Also, I love being able to make Corbulo my Warlord.

I think there still a place for librarians, i like the look of biker librarians, which can cast witchfire powers and then turbo-boost away. Include him in a plasma bike squad with a bike priest will give you more durability or the option to unload a load of plasma into a squad if you don't want to boost.

Psyker heavy armies will have a much easier time shutting down the powers, but I think the librarian is far from useless.

I am still up in the air about psykers. As such, I believe my libby models may be sitting this edition out, which is odd for me considering my go to HQ for my BA was always a JP Libby. I am still hoping that the new dex gives Dante a good purpose. My JP BA army is just asking for a new assault heavy HQ.

I must admit though, I miss the old 5th ed days with my BA. ASM with a PF, 2x Melta, Sang Priest, and a Libby...what a combo that was.

An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded
