How essential do people find the new Tactical Objective Cards to be to playing the new missions? Is it really so difficult with a bit of book keeping and a pen and paper to not just use the BRB? Do you only need one deck between you?

Either 2 decks or no decks, since you can still draw the same missions as the other player, even the ones already completed.

Using them or not depends on your time, it makes things quite a bit faster to have them and honestly they are quite cheap.

Now if they would just get them back in stock so I could buy some. Otherwise I have done just fine with a piece of paper and pen.

I find it's definitely worthwhile to have the cards, especially when generating a bunch at once. You never need to worry about repeating an objective and having to regenerate. It's also a smoother learning curve for the 18 that aren't just 'hold objective x' since you don't need to reference the book or write down details. It's nice to shave off a couple extra minutes for the convenience.

If the price tag is so objectionable to you, you can replace the functionality by just getting a cheap deck of cards and writing it out on them. Or even just print out the details and slip them into a sleeve with the card. I might even do this despite having the actual cards, since GW can't be bothered to make them a standard size to find sleeves for.

An excel spreadsheet typed up with the objectives on it, or just a photocopy of the chart will speed up play for those without a tactical deck. Just roll to see which objective you get and circle it on the list - when you either discard it or achieve it, cross it out and write the number of points you earned in the margin (0, 1, 2, etc).

Quick, easy, and cheap. If a tournament were to use tactical objectives this is the method i would suggest because it is simple and precludes any possibility of players cheating (aside from cloak and dagger - "I rolled secure objective 1, that i'm standing on, 3 times! woot!")

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Used them in my first game of 7th today and they were actually pretty fun. Just shared the one deck since they seemed to have enough duplicates in them to make it work mostly.

Either works fine, but the deck makes things a lot simpler if you roll the maelstrom mission that has secret objectives.

Took me about 10 minutes to make my own deck on index cards. I've tried it with and without and both me and my opponent agree the deck is better. But yeah each player should have their own deck.

But the pony is 300 feet tall and covered in CHAINSAWS!
