Want a better understanding of vehicle movement.

If I wanna move my Rhino for example, am I wasting one movement phase to pivot him one direction and moving him in the next movement phase or can I freely turn and move him as I would any other unit?

It's actually quite clear in the vehicle chapter I think. Even if you only have 6th Ed rulebook. Don't think there were changes.

Short answer is yes, you pivot him freely.

This is what I have been doing, but I played with some friends yesterday and they said I can't turn and move at the same time as its a pivot and some other bs which really annoyed me

Did you guys have the rulebook during play? I'm sure it'll be easy to sort out once you show them the appropriate chapter.

One interesting thing to keep in mind:
The Rule Book doesn't even require you to move in the direction you are facing, except for a few exceptions.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.
