So I got into Warhammer Fantasy just as 2 very nice armies got new books.

I was all ready to go with Dwarfs as they were full character but after playing a small point tournament with them I was sl bored with the static gunline, but I had played a more aggressive list in a learning game and I do believe they can be played aggressively.

I currently have the opportunity to buy a v large older dwarf army off a friend for an extremely reasonable price, but I am undecided even tho I already own the book.

The distraction was shiny new Wood Elves which I've had one small game with and now own 1000pts of also off a different friend.

So 2 fairly different armies tho you could argue some leaning towards shooting is the similarity.

Should I go with the 2 or just stick with the Woodies I already bought? Pros, and Cons people what do you think? I am still very new to Fantasy and have to admit very few of the armies actually appealed until this point apart from the pretty cool Tomb Kings models (what is that army like anyway?)

I've flirted with both armies, never got much into fantasy.

Based on the new dwarf book, there's just not enough flavor there for me. No magic, no cavalry (cept copters), no beasts...just all heavy infantry and war machines. Plus 3" move.

Wood elves move fast and have lots of flavorful units: treemen, war dancers, way watchers, eagles, casters, etc.

Going from zero I'd go elves. Either way, I've got some models for both armies if you're interested. You could test them both. PM me.

How many times do you want to loose until you get the hang of it and win?

If the number is low then dwarves are much more forgiving.

If the number is high then wood elves are hard hitting and fast but mistakes can wipe out your army in record times.

Also which armies models and fluff do you like? Usually that will decide the long term value.

So far dwarfs and the cool gyrobomber models are what piqued my interest.

The super sexy WoodElves models drew my interest in elves as I don't really do Chaos/evil and I think high elves are a bit pansy and high falootin.

I do like the Tomb Kings stuff but I don't know much about their story or playstyle and of course how much of the cool stuff is just pretty but too expensive to field.

Of the rest I liked The lizardmen but heard I might need to be willing to be reallly really poor in order to get a decent army together.

A lot depends on your budget, and how many opportunities you have to play.

If you have a fair amount of money, go for both, seeing as how you say you can get a decent army at a good price. You'll be ready to play some bigger games and get more into the rules at the same time as you slowly build up your Wood Elf army on the side.

Two armies can also be good if you get to play pretty often: you'll get a lot of chances to compare the playstyles as your armies grow, and find the playstyle that suits you the best.

But if you don't get to play a lot of games, I'd say go for the WElves since you already seem a bit bored by the dwarfs. You'll want that rare battle to be as much fun as possible, so having an army you enjoy playing is important
