Subject: RAGNAROK! All named characters: Orks vs Space Wolves 3150 (Finished)
I know my Ork codex is getting redone soon, but I heard that the Space Wolf codex was being redone soon as well. I invited my buddy Floyd to dream up a foot list of the named SW characters to have it out one more time with all of my named characters. Here is what we came up with:
We chose to play the Maelstrom mission in which each player increases their Tactical Objectives Hand by the turn number. Floyd takes Telekinesis, and rolls/earns Assail, Shockwave, Levitation, and Force on Njal. I pick Santic and Zogwort gets Gate o' 'Finitee, Purge Soul, and Banishment. We both roll on the Warlord charts, but we both forgot them. I won the roll off and decided to go first.
Ork Deployment
Spoiler:
Lined up from left to right in the picture:
Zogwort w/ 30 'Ard Shoota Boyz
Ghazghkull w/5 MegaNobz
30 Shoota Boyz in the Ruins claiming an Objective
Grotsnik w/30 Cyborked Slugga Boyz
30 Slugga Boyz
Warbikers, Kommandos, Stormboyz, and Grots are in reserve.
Space Wolves Deployment
Spoiler:
Left to right:
Logan w/6 Wolfguard & Arjac in Terminator Armour Claiming an Objective
Njal w/10 Gray Hunters
Ulrik (again)
The Fellhand
Canis w/5 Thunderwolf claiming an Objective
Floyd rolled Night Fighting Turn 1, and then the no good, mangy 'Oomie proceeded to steal the initiative! Let's see if these Space Puppies are worth at least 4 Orks each. Let the winds of Fenris roar!
Space Wolves Turn 1
Spoiler:
Is it too late to quit?
The Thunderwolf move up my right flank, but still claim their Objective.
Ulrik and Bjorn move towards another objective in the Ruins.
Ragnar moves towards the center objective, Njal moves right to claim Logan's Objective, and the Terminators move up my left flank towards the last Objective.
Floyd scores 2 points off a D3 for claiming 3 or more Objectives.
Wolves: 2/ Orks: 0
Ork Turn 1
Spoiler:
The Tide surges forward! The Red Shoota Boys still claim my one Objective. Zogwort attempts to Purge Canis' Soul on 3 dice, but he fails and Perils. Mental Purge takes a wound and one of his powers. I can't remember which. No points yet.
Wolves: 2/ Orks: 0
Space Wolves Turn 2
Spoiler:
The Thunderwolves get close enough for my Boyz to pet, but leave their Objective behind. Ulrik enters the Ruin and claims the Objective within while Bjorn hangs back. Ragnar's Bloodclaws enter another ruin and claim that objective, and the Terminators move closer to the Objective on my left flank.
OUCH! OUCH! It hurts so BAD! I sacrifice Zogwort to Canis in the Challenge in the hopes my Power Klaw Nob will get a chance to swing. Despite the large number of Thunderwolf attacks with Rending and Power Weapons, the 4+ Armour of the 'Ard Boyz keeps the Mob and Nob alive, Fearless, and unswept. The Mob Rule rules!
Floyd scores 1 point for the Challenge and 2 more for claiming Objectives.
Wolves: 5/ Orks: 0
Ork Turn 2
Spoiler:
Blue Shoota Boyz edge towards the Objective in the Ruins to the left. Grotsnik and his Boyz get into the Ruins with the Bloodclaws.
ZOGWORT POSTUMOUSLY SUMMONS DEAMONS! Or I took a fuzzy picture of Grots coming out of reserve. Not pictured: Wazdakka and the Warbikers Turboboosting forward on my right flank.
The MegaNobz assault the Thunderwolves! Ghazgkull challenges Canis, who accepts grimly. Then Ghazgkull, who was 'engaged' but not in base contact with any of the Space Wolves wolfs, switches places with a boy in base contact with Canis but far enough to be out of coherency with his Mob. This will be very important later on. The Calvary are annihilated to the last pelt, and everybody consolidates towards Ulrik and the Objective he is claiming, with Ghazgkull regaining coherency with his strung out Mob. First Blood to the Orks!
Grotsnik strikes!
Many fall, but both sides refuse to yield.
I also score a point for the Challenge with Canis.
Wolves: 5/ Orks: 2
Space Wolves Turn 3
Spoiler:
Hey, what's up, Bjorn? What are doing over there?
Logan and the Terminators finally claim the Objective on my left. Njal moves off his Objective and towards the Cybork Boyz.
Bjorn charges the MegaNobz, and
KILLS THEM ALL before they can swing. Ghazghkull's 3” Pile in move is not enough to bring him into base contact at I1 and looses his chance to smite the walker.
The End of Combat Pile in brings the two juggernauts together.
And Ragnar stands alone. Swarmed by Orks and surrounded by the heaps of dead friend and foe alike, he fights on. Lukas rolls a 1 and the Orks get the Last Laugh!
Floyd scores another point. Gotta start catching up!
Wolves: 6/ Orks: 2
Ork Turn 3
Spoiler:
Wazdakka and his Warbikers claim the Objective on my far right while the 'Ard Boyz get into position to assault Ulrik. Snikrot sneaks in on the back edge and claims Njal's recently abandoned Objective (hee hee hee).
The 'Ard Boyz get their Assault, but lose combat and are swept. Bjorn puts a wound on Ghazghkull, bringing him to 2, and the Warboss grins behind his Iron Gob in anticipation of his retaliation:
Bjorn smiles on the inside. Since he doesn't have a face anymore. Jerk.
The Orks score an Objective for 1 point, but Floyd gets Slay the Warlord.
Wolves: 7/ Orks: 3
Space Wolves Turn 4
Spoiler:
At this point it was getting late, so we decided to end the game on Turn 4, and I stopped taking pictures to speed things along.
Bjorn moves to support Ulrik, who positions his Gray Hunters to repel any possible attack from the lightning fast Ork Warbikerz. Njal and his Gray Hunters assault the Cybork Boyz, but both units refuse to concede and become mired in the mounting gore and bodies. Logan secures his position on his Objective.
Floyd scores another Objective.
Wolves: 8/ Orks 3
Ork Turn 4
Spoiler:
Wazdakka separates from the Warbikerz to claim the far right Objective. The Warbikerz dakka and assault Ulrik and the remains of his unit, wiping them off the table and claiming their Objective before their blood is cold. Bjorn is just over 3” from the Objective and unable to contest. Njal wins combat, but the mechanical Cyborks refuse to yield The Red Boyz and Snikrot sit on their Objectives for a total of 4. I score 2 off of a D3 for 3 or more Objectives secured, and 1 more for Linebreaker. A respectable score, but not enough.
Wolves: 8/ Orks: 6
The Names of the Dead
Spoiler:
With their Warboss dead, disorganization forces the Greenskins to withdraw in confusion to escape the inevitable coordinated retaliation and seething fury of the Space Wolves. They may have won the day, but at what cost? Let us name the dead, and look forward to the day when we fall in glorious battle and get to drink with them in the Halls of the Allfather.
Ulrik the Slayer, Wolf High Priest, Grandfather Lupis, Guardian of the Sons of Russ
Lukas the Trickster, the Strifeson, the Laughing One, the Jackalwolf
Canis Wolfborn, Growlthroat, the Feral Knight, Fangrider
Ragnar Blackmane, the Young King, Gifted One, the Allslayer
And the many who perished beside them
ALL HAIL THE GLORIOUS DEAD!

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.
FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.
