So basically I wanted to do a tattered and bloodied cloak draped over a rock as part of a 40mm base, being part of a model.

I thought of using paper buy I'm not sure how to model the flowiness of cloth. I thought of using a small strip of cloth but I wasn't sure if it'll take well to paint. I tried ripping up a plastic banner but it just didn't flow right.

Any of you expert scratch builders or modellers out there have any suggestions or ideas for me? I've no experience with green stuff so I probably can't sculpt at all!

Use foamboard or something even more dense and make creases in it by sanding with the corner of a folded piece of sand paper. I can't find the link right now but someone has a whole blog about ways to model certain terrain and suggested this method for fabric with lots of folds.

Or you could use greenstuff rolled thin and folded how you want.

Paper towel, soaked in glue/medium might give you what you want. Thin cotton fabric (high threadcount) would also behave similarly and probably look good.

I did something for SM Scout camo cloaks with Liquitex matte medium and some rather useful paper towels.

I noticed that the plastic glue label recommends wearing something akin to a hazmat suit when handling the glue. I have been using it for years and never used gloves or anything nor do I know anyone who does. ShouldI be worried for my health?

Well, there's a slight risk of gluing something together with it. Only slight, mind.

Great suggestion! I think paper towels can also help with the tattered look I'm trying to create.
