Ok, so in the next couple of months my Knights army will be ready.

Initially it will be 2 x Paladin + 1 x Errant, which comes to a hard 1120 (there's no options for Knights)

So in order to round it out to 1500 I need to decide what to do with the remaining 380. I can add another Knight of course, but cost aside, that won't do anything to address the weaknesses in a pure Knight detachment, chief of which, to my mind is AA.

So, with that in mind, what do people think would make good choices for an allied detachment? When considering your responses, please bear in mind I am not necessarily after the best competitive choice, game performance is of interest, but interesting painting or modelling projects will appeal equally (hence I've been looking at a small SoB force to man an ADL, because I don't have any, or a Hydra because I like painting tanks)
Something that can pull double duty as a backfield objective camper, so an element of durability, would also be of interest, and I'd rather stick to Imperial factions if possible, but not definite if someone has a good non Imperial suggestion.

Best Xenos ally: Necrons: good AA in night scythes, tough scoring units that you can drop anywhere. 2x5 warriors in night scythes, and a lord.

If you want to remain loyalists,

Space marines CT any

Librarian-60

scouts-55

Stalker-75

ADL quad gun-100

Here is a small force giving you 2 quad guns and not even 300pts (granted the costs maybe off as I don't have the codex with me).

I am actually making a similar list,

IG allies all the way!

cheaper AA acess and OBJ secured scoring troops acess.

any thought out SOB or marines or INQ will do fine im sure, just have a plan for AA support.

I've been playtesting this some - Grey Knights aren't a bad choice, as you can get a lot of warp charge on the cheap, as well as some extra fire support.

a couple of henchmen+psyback, coteaz, autocannon dread or stormraven - can address the inherent weaknesses against flyers and add psychic defense.

Another option is IG (AM?). With allies only needing one troop, you can stick a unit of vets in a bastion with an anti-air gun and take a leman for HQ and have no soft targets for an opponent to go after at all. Cheap wyverns or hydras can shore up other deficiencies.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Several good ideas I'll mull over. I'm also thinking a ML2 Librarian, 5 man Tac Squad and a MM/AC Stormraven? Has 5 points spare, is objective secured, and has utility against non flying units (well, the SR does!) and POTMS means I can potentially take out two targets per turn (with a little luck)

Has the distinct advantage of being comprised entirely of models that, with the exception of a normal PA Librarian, which I've been meaning to get around to grabbing anyway, I already own and have painted!
