Hi there,

A quick search didn't seem to turn up anything but I do apologise if I've missed this being discussed before. I'm looking for/asking for a guide on how to paint books like the one carried by this librarian:

Also, just in general, what are people's opinions regarding books, scrolls and seals that don't have text on them? e.g. (ftr not my model)

Cheers!

That was a fine-tipped Sharpie. I've heard of people using individual hairs or cat whiskers and very, very, steady hands. If your surface is flat enough a custom decal would also probably work well. You can get blank decal sheets pretty much anywhere online.

I noticed that the plastic glue label recommends wearing something akin to a hazmat suit when handling the glue. I have been using it for years and never used gloves or anything nor do I know anyone who does. ShouldI be worried for my health?

Well, there's a slight risk of gluing something together with it. Only slight, mind.

I use Micron Pigma Pens at .005 size. They work perfectly, just give them a while to dry before handling the model.

I created this video on painting purity seals but the techniques can easily be applied to books as well:

@LoH Thanks for your reply, those are definitely some interesting ideas. Finally a good use for the cat!

@Todosi As above really, I'll check them out, thanks.

@Dullspork I really liked your video, thanks for posting the link. Your suggestion of using brown instead of black seems like a good one. The one Purity Seal I've added 'text' to in black paint just didn't quite do it for me, so I think using brown is definitely something I'll investigate.
