Just a few questions from a brand new fantasy player. My buddies and I have decided to take the WHFB plunge for the first time ever. I am a bit confused by two things I am reading in the VC book and I just want to make sure I am understanding them correctly.

Firstly is the Undead special rule. Does this rule only apply to models that are not Lords and Heroes and those models that do not have the Vampiric special as well? The reason I ask is because I am looking at adding in a Necromancer as the Heroe of my 500 point starter force. I notice he has the Undead special rule but not Vampiric. However from what I gather him being the army general and having the Lore of the Vampires makes him ignore this rule.

Secondly signature spells are the spells that every "Wizard" gets in the respective lore that they have chosen. Then they are given one more power per level. (Rulebook is currently in the mail just wanted to clarify as I build this small force.)

Thanks in advance for answering these noobesque questions!

Every unit has the undead rule. (Yep, Even necromancers and crypt ghouls, act. ) but only models that specifically say that they have the vampiric rule have it. But just because a wizard uses lore of the vampires doesn't mean they have vampiric. Its just the name of the lore. The signature spell can be swapped out for one of the spells you rolled for if you want to.

And models with vampiric are also undead.

I suppose I should of clarified what aspect of the Undead rule was confusing me. I understand that not everyone has Undead. I meant it more so in the sense that if the General of the army dies. But now that I have looked at it again it seems clear to me. Must of just gotten ahead of myself and started out thinking myself haha.

Every unit in the VC army book has the Undead special rule, i.e. they're all Unbreakable and Unstable etc. If the general dies, each unit has to take a Ld test, and it loses one model for every point you fail by (most commonly known as "crumbling"). If you have another Wizard with the Lore of Vampires in the army he sort of takes on the mantle of General, and stops your army crumbling. If he dies, the army crumbles again. If at any point you have no Lore of Vampire casters left, your army crumbles every turn.

Every Wizard can choose to swap one of his spells for the Signature spell. You don't "automatically" get it, though you can choose to swap to it if you wish. So while you do have a 100% of being able to know the Signature spell, you may want to stick with the spell(s) you've rolled instead. Unlike other spells, more than one Wizard can know the same Signature spell. Some signature spells, like Invocation, have different power levels. Each power level still counts as the same spell. Before rolling to cast the spell, tell your opponent which power level you're aiming for, and your dice roll has to beat the casting value of that particular level. If you don't beat or equal it, the spell fails, you can't choose to then have it cast on a lower power level.

Hope this makes things clear
