HELLO DAKKADAKKA! 
I got into WH40k when an when a (surprisingly) american friend showed me how to play, and now I have a 1500 PT collection, and am looking all over the net for MOAR MELTA.  I like MELTA, DAKKA, feel no pain, and sonic weaponry.

Melta bikers! Slaanesh Raptors rock close combat with their I5! If you've got access to friendly opponents who'd be okay with it, get an Imperial Knight and use its Thermal Cannon. Dirge Casters are great too, but everyone uses those anyway.
