A model is hit by a Destroyer Weapon and the result is a 3 on the Destroyer Weapon table, which means the model is automatically wounded and loses D3 wounds instead of just one.
My question is: does the wounded model make his cover or invulnerable saves for the "automatic wound" before the roll of a D3 (thereby only needing to make one save against the initial wound) or after the number of D3 wounds has been determined (then having to make saves for the number of wounds rolled).
If before the D3 wounds are rolled for, then the procedure would be make one cover/invulnerable save for the initial automatic wound. If save is made, model is safe. If save is failed, then that model takes D3 wounds instead of one. This way seems to save a lot of time since you have to allocate wounds to the closest model, you would just remove a model for each failed save (in the case of one wound models).
If after the D3 wounds are rolled for, the model makes a save for each wound generated. So if the D3 result is 3, then the model must make 3 cover/invulnerable saves. This seems like it would be a lengthy and drawn out process, since you have to allocate each wound one at a time to the closest model, roll a D3 for that model, then make multiple cover saves, remove the model if it fails a save, then repeat for the next closest model until all the wounds have been allocated.
So what say you Dakka?
