2,000 points

I got given this army from a friend who had excess bits and miniatures.

It lacks Anti Air, but I'm not sure what to do as the list looks pretty tight.

Btw this was all made from bits and excess squads as my friend has scaled down his marine army from 10,000 points, so has cost me nothing as a result.

Is there anything wrong with the list?

That is actually a pretty nice list, if not extremely competitive.

Your friend is a really nice guy.

He was one of my employees at GW a decade ago and we've remained great friends since.

I'm a little worried about a lack of AA, but Sun Tzu did say "Worry not what your enemy can do, concentrate on what you can do".

I think it was Sun Tzu.

Is this list actually competitive?

I just built it out of bits and some parts left over.

Yeah, it's a nice list. I'd run Ultramarines Chapter Tactics because you can get use out of every aspect. The razorbacks could be exchanged for some anti air IMO but overall it's gonna be good for fighting a lot of armies that bring vehicles. Nice list!

Very lucky guy you are. But yeah that list is pretty hardcore, seeing as how the most common game played is a 1500 point game all you would have to do is look at who your versing, then wipe accordingly but besides the point they are the SPEHSS MEHREENS AND THE EMPRAH"Z WRATH!

Cheers guys. Much appreciated.

I think I'm uber lucky to have a good friend and very fortunate to make this list out of parts and broken bits.

Good news is, nothing looks out of place.

It's not a competitive list, but it's not a bad list.

A smaller Termi squad in a Land Raider or Storm Raven may be better, foot is slow but workable with the Chapter Master tanking up front.

Stern guard really benefit from having some combo weapons for an effective Alpha strike.

Your Objective Secured Scoring is a bit light.

Devastations need ablative wounds, and they aren't the best choice around. Razorbacks aren't great, would be better on Tac Squads. Lax Pred is inefficient, better off with an auto cannon, but there are worse options.

I'd cut the Termies in half, get a storm Raven. Faster delivery platform and offers AA.

I'd drop the Pred and the Razorbacks from the Devastators for some more bodies for the Devastators and another small Tac Squad or two with the Razorbacks, preferably heavy Boltler or Assault cannons.

Oh the Terminators aren't going up the field on foot. They'll be deep striking along with the Chapter Master. I can definitely see the merits of a transport for the Terminators though.

As for Combi Weapons in Sternguard, I've found them to be way too expensive for a single shot weapon.

The Las Pred is a bone of contention with a lot of players. I tried the Autocannon/Las build in my Chaos Army and I found it to be less effective than tri las.

I definitely agree that I'm light on Secured Units. I should keep to the rule, 1 for every 500.

That's a real nice list. Be sure to offer the guy a beer or something.

This is a great starting place, as you can now see where you want your marines to go and what to buy next.

It's a functional list.

My main suggestion would be to drop the razorbacks entirely. They're not an point-efficient source of firepower, and you don't want to be transporting your devastators (they work best as a stationary fire support unit).

You also might want to think about getting a bike for your chapter master instead of deep striking him in with the rest of your terminators

Actually 1750-2k is more common 1850 usually being what most larger events are at. So this is right where it needs to be. This looks pretty solid to me. I would give it a go and see how you like it and go from their. With heldrakes getting a nerf there are not many fliers you straight up have to be fearful of.

Your point ?

Annnnd, on a less cynical note...

If I get rid of the Lascannon Devastators and both Razorbacks, I can fit a Spartan in the list to transport the Terminators and not lose much firepower.

Solid list. Good for an all around list.

I would do the following though:
-Combi-weapons on the SG as suggested
-Razorbacks for the tactical squad, combat squad them and drop the plasma gun for a melta for some mobile anti-tank. This way the PC can stay back with some wounds, or keep the PG and keep it back.
- I would down grade the Razorbacks for the Dev's or remove the pred for some extra bodies for the devastators.

Great list though, intimidating at 1500 points.

Are Ironclad Dreads worth taking in Drop Pods?

Depends.
Ironclads in drop pods are a suicide unit that disrupts your opponents deployment choices, and draws fire away from your main army (they need to kill it on their first turn, or else it will start rampaging around their back field). This gives you the opportunity to move your entire army mostly unmolested, which can be a great advantage. But if you fail to take advantage, and your opponent does kill your ironclad before it can do anything, then it was pretty much a waste of points.

They can also be useful to harass enemy infantry on a crucial objective and will often require the enemy to dedicate some big guns to it which may help you advance towards an objective of your own. Dropping one mid to late game can really mix things up for an opponent that is used to hunkering down on objectives turn 2 or 3 and waiting out the game. I like dual heavy flamers and assault launchers.

Yes - Ironclads in Pods are awesome.

Suicide units are a waste of points, commit 2 or back it up with other DP units to hit them where it hurts. These work well combined with kitted Tac squads - melta or plasma will work or Sterns with combi weapons, which I think are worth the points, if you only take a few. I pack 4 melta in a squad of 10. Pretty much guarantees dead tank.
