Hey guys, Just played some for-fun games at my FLGS last night with DA (2k points) against nercrons,

Despite being crushingly victorious, I made massive mistakes (having never played against necros before) -- maelstorm mission cards will do that though.

What I did was take a very assault-heavy list

* (1 squad of 10 Assault Marines with an interterro chaplin with the Slaying Blade of Caliban or what ever it's called)
*and another 5 man squad of assault marines
*10 man vet squd, (combat squaded) 5 with 4x power claws and 1 PF/Combat shield; rest combimelta in drop pod
RW command squad

And despite this list, I felt going into assault was a huge mistake...

Against a necro army where (after those crazy jump troops with the terminator bases and whips that reduce your I to 1 were annilated by mass shooting) there was little to no assault-oriented infantry.

He had these HQs in each of these necron warrior blobs that just... obliterated me.

Mind shackle, (Btw, we had a bit of debate if invisibility still counts for the rolls to hit yourself)...

if I wasn't mind shackled, He was going first (unwieldy power weapon) and hitting me with str 7 attacks AP1...

HOLY gak...."

And if I hit him, and wounded him... NBD 3++ with the chance to come back on a 4+, d3 wounds...

Absolute monsters...

So was I taking the wrong CC squads that the DA army book offers, or should I have played orks if I wanted to play with assault units.

DA: 8-2-0 in 7th Edition
Dwarfs: 1-0-0
Dark Elves: 3-0-0

Honestly, from my experience using the DA book, its a combination of both. The DA assault units are primarily terminators or knights of each type, and independent characters.

Marines with CC gear just don't do enough against anything that isnt troops, and when they hit an enemy IC, it turns badly on them.

wraiths are one of the top 3 most feared cc units in my opinion, super fast, multi wounds with invuln saves and tons of attacks...scary...

DA assault squads are best for dropping in a pod with 2 flamers imo.

The weapon you gave the chaplain is a bit poor too. I have 2 chaplains, on a bike and in terminator armour, and my go to weapon for both of them is the mace of redemption. If you had had that, then fighting the blobs of crons would have been easier.
The mace has good stats, giving you str 7 and AP3, however the best part would have been the blind rule. Necrons only have I2, so if you do a wound they would fail 66% of the time.

If you want to assault with DA then you have 3 options: Terminators with TH/SS, DW knights, and black knights.
Outside of these there is nothing else I would want to use.

Just remember, the mindshackle scarabs effect a random model in base contact, so try to pile a lot of guys around him if you have a character in there, just to lower the chances of him being effected. With LD10 MSS will effect you 50% of the time.

Bring more guns and less cc, I'm not sure exactly why you took cc veterans. They can take literally 10 combi weapons in a single squad. That in drop pods is enough firepower to slay wave serpents at a discount lol.

Cc veterans are best used from a land raider, same with assault marines stripped of their jump packs.

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts
