what's wrong with giving Ren & Stimpy guns???
Aside from being, as already elabored above, absolutely contrary to the tone of the 40k setting?
Ren & Stimpy with guns would make for a *great* Chaos (undivided, obviously) army and would totally fit within the theme. Remember: Chaos means just that, totally unpredictable who the heck knows what is that thing, why is it looking at me and ZOMG IT HAS A GUN! AIEEEEE!!!! going for it. After all, Ren & Stimpy are clearly a chaos spawn and it's twisted minder. Happy Happy, Joy Joy! Happy Happy, Joy Joy! Happy Happy, Joy Joy!

Anyhow, that said, I'm not a huge fan of the Goff Rokk Looted Shadowsword or trying to emulate it with the squiggoth. The tank is an excellent conversion, and would make a great centerpiece for an Ork Rokk Concert diorama, but as a game peice, when I look at it, all I think is how any ork on the exterior would be blasted to bits with a couple frag missiles, or a few bursts from heavy stubbers or heavy bolters. Not really combat oriented. On the otherhand, with speakers in place, and some Wagner playing "Flight of the Valkyries", I could totally see the armored Squiggoth (as currently envisioned, not as a walking stage) in the center of a green tide crying "WAAAAUGGGHHH!!!!".

How to make it come about? I'd carefully hollow out the center of the beast. If you need to, it probably wouldn't be too hard to extend the howdah up some with a wee bit of plasticard, gubbinz and what notz. You might even be able to get a pair of working speakers to stick on the sides (it would be most awesome if you could find a way to make them into the "trumpet"/horn style speakers). Also, check out your local Radio Shack (or go online), I think there are electronic kits out there that you can use to wire up your own mini-speakers, ones that might be both louder and smaller than the headphones your using.

I agree that your Squiggoth would be better with a 'grim darkness' rather than parade of clowns vision of the far future. That is not to say there isnt room for an ork with a guitar and huge amp on the howdah. Then add some looted searchlights with coloured lenses. Just give the rest guns.

On the other hand one of your zap guns could be an orky prism cannon type fingy. With a ray gun aimed at a glitterball hanging from a crane.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

I followed your gargant thread, so I believe I have some insight into your modelling  aim, and though even having music coming from the squiggoth is a little silly, it's also fun, so it works.

While the roving rock-concert would also be fun, it's be a little too over-the-top for me. From what little I've seen of your green tide, I don't think it would fit in. Serious vs silly is really in the eye of the beholder, but this sounds like it would land on the silly side, and I don't think your entire army has that silly feel to it.
On the other hand, if used in a themed army it would be a great centre-piece, but again, only for that specific army list.

I started playing 40k in 2nd edition too, trackta-kanons, biker wipe-outs, and goff rockers were all great aspects of the horde, but there isn't nearly that amount of camp anymore, unless it's introduced 'artificially'.

So, in summation, I vote 'no' as a general army addition, but see how it could have it's place in a themed army list.

I love the idea. keep on rocking!!!

personally, I thing it IS the mix between seroius and silly which makes Orks such an awsome army to build. take my army for example: my Warboss is a kickbutt Warlord with a Carnifex Skull for a helmet, and one of my Kommandos looks like Sam Fisher. it's silly, but evil

Just thinking. A 'wall of sound' seems pretty orky if you consider it. I wonder if I could fit that on the howdah - it'd give me a good excuse to toss some stage lights on though, and I could probably hide the other big speaker behind one of those big central amps.

but if you build those giant speakers, it wont look anymore like your Squiggoth is singing....

I think at this point you can make the howdaw interchangeable if you decide to go with another theme for your squiggoth.

If I might make another suggestion, the model would be much too top heavy, visually, if there's just a huge flat stage on it's back. How about some large speakers hanging off the sides to help bring balance? And if you decide to go with the wall of speakers, instead of making a bunch of small speaker boxes, you could make a 'face' of multiple speakers with cutouts covered with mesh to let sound out, with the speaker hidden behind it.

I think it could work well. My main difference to a standard "concert" deck would be instead of having da boyz up top as passive audience members kind of thing, they should be lining the edge of the howdah going absoloutely troppo unloading their guns into whoever's unlucky enough to be below them. The "concert" more working da boyz into a killing frenzy then into boogie-down partay time.

Bump, because I was thinking of a similar project with Immolators and Exorcists with Laud Hailers, small radios and a radio transmitter on a CD player broad casting chants.

If you do go for more exposed speakers (which could be cool instead of just drums), make the big mek shouting orders/speeches like at a rally, yelling into the mic and pointing, with a giant speaker behind him.

This is probably too late for the finished project, but I am really excited about the idea.

One thing at a time. This will be coming sooner than later, as it's one of those things I can build without worrying if a new ork codex this christmas will screw it up.

I'z been shown a vishun uv Gork and Mork, an I hadz ta get to werkin' on it!

DIS CHOPPA IZ TOO WEEDY FER DA JOB, SO I'Z UPGRADED TO A 'UGE CHOPPA!

It wot took me'z bout half uv one-a dem 'ours to chop my way out da uvva side, but I didz it!

Ya'z see, I'z gunna hollow it out and put all da worky bitz inna 'iz gutz, and close 'im up, but not 'fore I putz a hatch in da top fer changin' da batt-rys. Dat way it'z all sealed up good so'z I can put wot-evah howdah I wantz on da top!

I ain't no zoggin' madboy! Just youz give me a little bit ta prove it.

(It was an astonishingly good cut, actually. I missed everything of importance with the saw - avoided the armor plates, the legs, even the squig-wang on the underside. I'm going to hollow it out and remove the top of him as a hatch which will hopefully be hidden or concealed by the howdah. There's a couple cuts there as I worked up the nerve and broke jewellers saw bits that were far too weak to do the job, but those can be easily concealed, and the actual cleft cut itself is a nice and simple repair with a bit of greenstuff 'round the underside that nobody actually sees.)

But wait! It gets worse!

It's times like this I wish I knew electronics so I didn't have to bother with all this work, but so be it. That marked out block is going to be removed tomorrow courtesy of my dremel. Just a little aside; I don't know if the future for dakka includes it being down during the transfer of ownership, so I'd like to remind everyone that I also keep my Works in Progress at http://www.the-warforge.com if you want to keep up-to-date.

Oh ye of little faith, behold!

Ya might have thought I was crazy, but tell me if this looks all that bad.

Barely a seam, eh? Alright, there is a seam, and there are a couple marks on it, but nothing that greenstuff can't superficially fix. This all gets easily hidden underneath the howdah anyway.

But wait!

A hatch! And underneath? Batteries and the circuit to amplify the speaker, in a compact (hah, not really...) box!

Enjoy this! It's a view that nobody will ever see of a squiggoth's rock solid resin insides. About two hours of dremelling with a very dedicated sanding drum carved this out.

It's alright, guys. You can say it. Come on, do it with me.

Woohoo!

I might not have been as mad as I seemed. <!--emo& -->

What is this flying rodent gak you speak of?

Are you able to buy this flying rodent gak in a store? Can you eat flying rodent gak? If so, does flying rodent gak taste like squig? Does flying rodent gak make da boyz go fastuh like da red paynt?

Well, this certainly is going to be one really cool flying rodent gak crazy apocalypse army by the time you're done.

I hope the stompa rules do it justice as I hope there is something for squigoths included as well.

You don't get cancer per se, but 'Persistant Chemical Asthma'.

Persistant meaning that when you inhale X amount, you get chemical asthma, and it does not matter whether you inhale it all in one sitting, or gradually over the course of years. Once you hit that magic number BAM!! You've got it.            Forever.
