I looked at what Necromunda bitz we'll be losing. Not that lot. The old Redemptionists will go away, plus a handful of bitz, some scavvies and a few other models, plus individual components. This isn't all that serious, really. For Mordheim, I'm seeing pretty much the same thing, and then there's the fact nearly all Mordheim warbands are convertable from WHFB plastics, so I really do not see this "death" of which you speak.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

you mean that you understand that they're now cutting more corners after years of poor business practices?

Continuing a money-losing service IS a bad business practice.

I seriously doubt that anyone in my gaming group will stop playing because of something as trivial as the mail order department's restructuring

Amen to that. Though the loss of 9947010116501, Chaplain Lemartes Body is a heavy blow. There goes my dream of an all-Chaplain Lemartes Death Company. An unstoppable tide of disco-fugly!

I may never recover.

Hubcap,
We thought you were dead.

Good to see we were incorrect.

Rumors of my demise...yadda yadda yadda.

The opposite of dead, actually - Real Life kinda ran me over for a while. But now I'm working in Afghanistan (of all places) with loads of time to kill, so I thought I'd stop by again. I'm curious to see what Yakface does with the place. I'd tear down the wallpaper and repaint, but that's just me...

Just another bit of info on the "costs more for the pieces individually than for both in one box" thing. There is a cost of risk in selling the bitz seperately, in that you don't know how many of each to make.
Say you only sell blisters. Since every blister has 1 body and 1 backpack, if you expect to sell 1000 of the blisters, you make 1000 of each and package and call it a day. Now, when you offer to sell them seperately you save on packaging of course, but what happens when you make 1000 of each, and you sell 1000 bodies and only 500 back packs? You have 500 back packs sitting around not making their money back, costing money to store. Maybe someone buys them, or maybe they get lost or stolen, but chances are they just cost money you don't get back. Now, maybe they can be recycled, dumped in the vat of other backpacks to be put in blisters, if it works that way, but even then you still had the cash tied up for a while, and have to pay someone to walk them to the vat.
Essentially the uncertainty is what you are paying for. Uncertainty is really expensive to companies, which is why they spend lots of cash on marketing and ERP/optimization tools such as SAP to help avoid leaving money tied up in mitigating risk.

Anyway, I will be thrilled if they make inferno pistols a bit. Having to buy 2 cannoness hand sprues to outfit one Seraphim with the twin pistols is a bit much, and I am not strong enough in sculpt-fu to make them myself.

Hope this isn't too much in the way of thread necromancy, but I was just looking at GWUS's new "Bitz Pack" listing that just went up. I would say I was disappointed, except I was expecting it to be just about this bad. A super limited listing of what I consider some of the least useful bitz that they formerly offered.

  • Oh, look! SM shoulderpads! Wait, I don't know anyone who has ever wasted the money on those, when all the chapters who have shoulderpads are already covered by the SM decal sheets (which are no longer available separately, by the way)

  • Want to covert you Daemonhunters Inquisitor Lord with a Psycannon (probably the most common conversion in the DH list)? Well, they only sell them in packages of five? What the hell would anyone need five of them for? The only other place to use them is either in your Grey Knights squad, or your Grey Knights Terminator squad, and you can just by the figures that way already.

  • Want to model some gun servitors to go with that Inquisitor? Sorry, your stuck with the multi-melta, you can't buy the plasmacanon arm or heavy bolter arm anymore.

  • Want to build the rest of the retinue for your Inquisitor? Well, you better be satified with what comes in the Inquisitor box sets, because they won't sell them to you separatly any more.

  • Want to model the Shrike's Wing squad to go with that cool Skrike figure you painted up? Tough luck, you can't buy lightning claw arms anymore.

  • Want to give your Necron Lord a Staff of Light? Tough, the only way to get it is to buy the whole Necron Destoryer Lord for the one part.

  • The list goes on and on. I never complained about paying too much for bitz, as long as it was cheaper than buying a whole miniature for just one part, I considered it a good deal, but now we're back to the bad old days of canibalizing whole miniatures just for one weapon. To me, conversions were an important part of the GW "hobby" and unless they plan on expanding the available choices down the line, they just about killed it with this change in the bitz policy.

To be honest, I just never know. Some places slam you for bringing back old threads instead of starting new ones, and other places slam you for starting new threads when there is an old one around. (and heck, some forums slam you for both so... )

Sonic Blasters, Blastmasters, and Doom Sirens appear to be gone.

I flatly can't believe that they've gotten rid of so many bits. I imagine they'll be adding more stuff to the site as time goes by.

Of course you could have looked on the front page of the forum and you would have found THIS THREAD instead.
