Anyway i personnally dont see the point of these faq if they are not officicial. What the point??

Tournament FAQs are just as "official" as any other rule at a tournament that utilizes them.

The point of a tournament FAQ is to help resolve rules arguments and to give players (and judges) a road map for how tricky rules situations will be handled in the tournament should a disagreement arise.

The fact is, if both players agree to something, they can choose to play the game any way they damn well please.

But if both players don't see eye-to-eye on the rules, that's when issues at tournaments arise (and they do pretty often). If you've even been to a tournament and had a rules issue escalate to the point where you need to call a judge over, you know that its basically a crap-shoot at that point.

Tournament judges are players just like the rest of us who read the rules and make their own interpretations based on their opinions and biases. As a player with a rules issue, you never really know exactly how a tournament judge is going to rule.

With a good tournament FAQ in use, if you've read the FAQ you can have a pretty good idea of how the judge is going to rule a situation (i.e. by the ruling in the FAQ). And if both players have read the FAQ (or at least one player has a copy of the FAQ to show the other player) then the issue won't even get to the point where a judge is needed.

In short, a tournament FAQ helps the games run smoother, eases the pressure on the judges a bit, ensures more consistent rulings across the tournament and overall makes the tournament run smoother.

Right behind you...

Clearly the Adepticon FAQ is a labor of love for the guys who wrote it. I applaud them for wanting to make their event run smoothly and keeping people all on the same sheet of music as much as possible. In that respect they did a great job since even GW has stated that events like theirs should and do have their own rules and flavor.

As for other events adopting their FAQ, that is totally up to those event organizers and this will either entice or discourage people from going based on their opinion of it. Personally, I won't be adopting it for my local club games because it has too many rules changes and rulings we just can't agree with. But if I am going to attend Adepticon or some other event that adopts this FAQ, then I have absolutely no problem with it. It is part and parcel of the event experience. If you don't like the thing and don't want to play under its ruling, then don't go...

I agree its a labour of love etc. And i agree that it might even be helpful. My point is its not universal. so it cant be used from one tournie to another or in pick up games as its not official. It limited in where you can use it.

therefore its not of that great a use to most people. Atleast with the GW faq no matter how bad at least they are universally usable.

But if a tournament organizer institutes the ADepticon FAQ, then
it CAN be used by other people. OR they can use the Adepticon
FAQ or other FAQ as a basis and write their own. So long as they
tell people on signing up that judges should be interpreting rules
according to X ruling, then they should be fine.

It's also the direction that they started with in 3rd edition, (Dark Eldar Grotesques being allowed a transport if accompanied by a Haemonculus, despite having no way for this to happen without joining the IC before the game begins, for example) before it was pointed out to them that they hadn't actually included the option for it in the rules.

If it was accepted as official i would have no issue with it as it probably helps clear some grey areas. But unfortunatly it is not OFFICIAL.

As for other organisers using it, sure they could but some wont want to as they would rather stick with official FAQ's. Yes people would still go to adepticon and the others tournies that use this faq. But it will allianate players who do not want to use unofficial stuff.

As the main thing i picked up in the others threads is if you dont like it dont dont go to adep so the division begins.

GW has demonstrated their unwillingness to expand the official FAQs to the degree that’s needed.

Adepticon has always had its own FAQ, which has always been one of the most comprehensive ones out there. The US GW Events team asked Adepticon to become part of the US GT circuit. US GW clearly respects and appreciates that Adepticon is the biggest and best event in the country, and a big FAQ was already part of that when GW asked.

The new FAQ is the best and most comprehensive FAQ in the world. Since GW has refused to provide anything like it, the folks who made this one offered it to the world to use, in the hopes that it could fill the void that GW has chosen to leave.

Plus - People may not be aware of this, but the main coordinator(s) for the UK Events was present at AdeptiCon last year for a little bit of sight seeing. How many other US events have garnered this much attention? I'll just let all of you other folks speculate as to why they were there.

So would PlayaDD be appropriate? I really liked that Calgar pic, good work!

I won't be using it unless my gaming group does. I don't mind a little schism in my religion, keeps people thinking, but one of the benefits of having a ruleset for a game is that everyone is on the same page. I travel a lot. My passport looks like the agent was having too much fun and just couldn't put the stamp down. I play a lot of places I go. I've played games with people that I couldn't even speak to due to language barriers. All b/c we were using the same rules. d6 "rule" and all. Now, I have nothing against the FIQ, and would have no problem using for one-off games, or the odd game. But in general I won't be using it. In special circumstances (just to try it out, playing in a tourney that states that they will be using it, whatever), no problem.
