So wait, your real name is "Green Blow Fly"?

Seriously, what's the point of this thread? If you're going to start listing off all the anonymous people who hide behind usernames and post on Dakka you might as well just copy pasta the members list. And unless you've posted your full name, phone number, and address somewhere in your profile you have no right to be pointing fingers at other people for anonymity.

THIS. IS. INTERNET!

Anyway, I don't really care, I say post away. I'm only interested in seeing if my name ends up on there and hearing an explanation for it, if not my interest in this topic will obviously wane.

My real name is Steve Turner. A lot of people here in our community know me.

Any particular reason WHY you think my account is a sock puppet, other than because I say things you don't like?

If you did your homework, you'd see that my email address (you know the one you looked through my profile for?) is attached to a lot of things online (Facebook account, Twitter, etc).

You fail yet again, and please stop emailing me. Either PM me or just post on these forums.

**edit** just noticed that the forums automatically correct for the "u and "r", and make you look more intelligent than your actual email did.
**reedit** eff if, i can't get the netspeak vbersion of "are" here. use your imaginations.

These were my favorite sock puppets.

They make you feel special when you put a hole in a special place.

You're confusing having an opinion to trolling, just like GBF and Deadshane1 did.

Or what other account does he own ?

I only own one. This one.

Sock Puppets, Sah! Farsands of them!

It seems GBF is actually just confused about the difference between a sock puppet and a troll.

A sock puppet is an account set up by somebody to talk about or support themselves in some way. If I set up an account under a different identity and start posting about how wonderful Under The Couch is, or posting to support my own arguments in YMDC... that's a sock puppet.

Not attaching your real name to an account does not make it a sock puppet. That just makes it (for anyone not running a business online that they promote through that account) sensible internet practice.

Setting up an account specifically for the purposes of causing a ruckuss... (And I should point out that I'm not claiming any of that vast list of account were actually set up for that purpose, since I haven't been following the relevant threads) ... that's a troll, not a sock puppet.

GBF, your ridiculous and simply unproven and paranoid accusations just cement you further and further into a preverbial dungheap of what many peoples' opinions of you stand to be. (Prove me wrong.)

The most ironic part of all this is that Bunker is actually my last name.

GBF, I love you buddy. You make Dakka that much more worth reading.

The sock puppet demands moar GBF posts.

GBF, after all we've been through, I'm not on the list? I thought we had something together, something special.

Now put me on the list or the cute ducklings are gonna get it!

It's a shame more forums don't require users to use their real names when posting. Especially in small communities like our gaming communities, it keeps conversation civil, and makes people think before they post since they know they can't fade anonymously away.

We use this naming convention for our Kommando forums and it has resulted in two years of fantastic, thought-provoking conversations with no signal to noise ratio to speak of.

It does, however, but a lot of burden on the mods to track down and confirm registrations. I wonder if the trade off is worth it?

Maybe that's GBF's proof? Maybe he's squinting behind those sunglasses?

This is a semi-public forum in the sense that anyone can join and there are no fees, you just have to follow the rules. We don't even have a formal age limit, which is why the policy on language is fairly strict.

With thousands of users it would not be worth the Moderators' time trying to validate them all in case a few were sock puppets.

To be frank, I misdoubt GBF's accusations of sock puppetry -- he is just having a go at the anti-WC guys.

I've been on Dakka for several years and I don't remember a single accusation of sock puppetting until just now.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Well I've only made it to page two but I'm thinking the public ridicule is more than enough at the moment. We'll see what happens the rest of the way.

Also, yes.

The only thing that might count as a form of puppetry would be the harem of Malfred clones we used to have, but I think they got loose and escaped a few years back.

Many people don't wish to share personal details. I only do so with people I know and won't post them publically. For a start, you put my whole name into google and at the top of the list you'll find me - my work address, phone number and personal email as well as a photo. No thanks.

Seriously thats just stupid. In the age of identity theft thats, as MDG might say, is daft.

EDIT: the idea is stupid, not the poster. You're clearly not paranoid enough. if Malf comes along and asks for your socks DON'T DO IT!

When you buy socks, my suggestion is to buy 4-6 identical pairs. That way, as you lose a few through attrition, you can combine orphan socks and have another pair. If you buy all individual pairs of socks that don't match, if one is lost or gains a hole, you have to throw the whole pair out.
