I'll use it on one of the sternguard in his squad.

For this guy I settled on 'Telum' which means Arrow in latin, fitting for a Sternguard sgt I think

Sternguard is nearly done, but I'll do the next photo for him tomorrow, after I have finished him.

Here is a better shot I tried to take of my finished Tac marines, tho.

Thats some really good painting youve got going, i like the cloth that razorback

"I salute you! For though our path has been long and bloody, you have served our lord with unflinching courage and the honour of true warriors. We have seen many fall today and must remember, even as we die, that our blood to is welcome..."

what does the "I" stand for on the veteran on your tactical squad out of curiosity?

*looks at your marines in comparison to my marines*

*checks proper blood ravens paint scheme*

*realizes he has painted the imperial eagle incorrectly*

*looks at 1,500 points worth of blood ravens painted up*

sigh.

It's meant to be the Roman Numeral 1, as you can see on their shoulder pads they have a 1 as well, being the First Squad of the 2nd Company of Blood ravens.
Also blood ravens use different eagle colours to denote different companies.

So black is just for the 2nd company, I believe.
So yours can just be a different company

I finally finished the Sternguard Vetern Sgt today.

Here is Telum, Sgt of the 7th Squad of the 1st Company.

By thy colour will he know thee,

By thy banners will he fear thee,

By thy standard will he dread thee,

Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war.

Very nice clean work, the gold on the stern guard veteran is awesome how do you do that because it gives great contrast (to which mine does not)?
keep up the great work!

WOW.

I'm a darn good painter ( modest and all too, I'll post my nids in a few days, so you can see that I'm not lying here. ), and I can speak from experience that building the highlight tones for Blood Ravens is tough. My Ravens don't come close to looking this good.

The step between red gore and blood red is a chasm. Blood red should be renamed blood orange, because it's completely different than scab, gore, and Mechrite.

It's a testament to your painting skills that you're able to make these guys look so good. Red's also a difficult color to work with as a base color(not nearly as bad as yellow, though).

You've done a phenomenal job with these guys and I can't wait to see the rest.

PS, as a side note, you may have just pushed me over the edge to repaint my SM army as Crimson Fists, as I'm unhappy with how they've turned out (and the few fists I've done have turned out tremendously)...so thanks, I think.

Wow. Those are incredible.

Let me ask you something: I get that you've never painted models before. Have you ever painted anything? Watercolors? Anything? Because your technique is awesome, and you didn't fall prey to newbie mistakes- missing detail, frustration, clumpy highlights, etc.

For my own sanity, I must know!

I'm simply amazed that you picked up painting that quickly and congratulations on having some outstanding models. Your highlighting and detail are awesome and if it's not too much trouble I'd also like a link to some of the tutorials you've read.

I am not sure if anyone else has posted this but IIRC you cant give a Tac squad any special/heavy weapons unless they have ten marines in he squad.

But good job on the painting.

Its a option in the new Codex that a 10 man squad can have a "Free" Heavy Weapon

6 man or indeed 5 man squads can still take a Heavy Weapon if abeit at a more expensive price pts wise overall im getting boned for it being that my squads operate as sixes

They dont call me Garybrandy for nothing!

I think you can tell that he has jus started out painting, if you have a background in cartography, have done woodworking and 20 years of martial arts.. you would have some type of skill already not to mention patience.

Study beforehand... and you said 5 hours practice on ur first marine. It's entirely possible. It's just a matter of going straight to the advanced stuff and studying it as much as you can.

I think that you studying how to paint was the right move. It means you don't have any bad habits to unlearn. You've started as a pro!

Your blood ravens look the biz. How big do you plan your army to be? Or is it for the joy of painting, and not gaming.

Sorry sir, but unless there is a rule somewhere in the dark bowels of the 5th Edition Codex, you are wrong.

Here, from the Troop Page, on the Tac Squad Options
"If the squad numbers ten models, one Space Marine may replace his boltgun with one of the following:
-a Flamer Free
-a Meltagun +5 pts
-a Plasma Gun +10 pts

If the Space Marine squad numbers ten models, one Space Marine may replace his boltgun with one of the following
-a heavy bolter, multi-melta, or a missile launcher Free
-a plasma cannon +5 pts
-a lascannon +10 pts "
