Back at the OT : presumably most bars/similar don't search patrons when they arrive or enter so, I'm assuming, subject to a person actually pulling out their concealed weapon...no one would know they were carrying one anyway... yes ?

Kind of related to this : How would or does this work in nightclubs/similar. Over here it's quite common to get a quick patdown by the continental shelfs manning the entrance, and on the idiot box I've seen similar and/or metal detctors at clubs, this would not be legal to stop people from carrying their guns in then ? Subject to leagl ownership etc etc.

EDIT: yes they could still stop patrons from coming in with a firearm. Thats my point, locations can still prohibit firearms if they desire. Its just up to the locale.

And... I don't really regard "happy slapping" as a violent crime per se, but that's what it is recorded as.

Wasn't the original OP about the fact that guns are going to be allowed in areas were alcohol is served? Now ignoring the who;e gun control issue in general and what your opinion is of it, surely letting guns & alcohol mix isn't a great idea? We don't allow alcohol at football games over here, due to it's potential to cause fights, and these people want to allow alcohol & guns in the same room!?! You must be out of your bloody minds!

*It permits carry into restaurants. I am sure you have booze in most of your restaurants.

*It still permits the locale to prohibit.

*It still prohibits the CHLrs from drinking.

My lukewarmness about the law aside, you're not reading the posts. They aren't allowing anyone with a gun to carry it in a "bar". They're changing the law so as to not prohibit someone with a carry permit, who is because of that permit allowed to carry their weapon pretty much everywhere else, to carry that weapon where alcohol is being sold or served. It doesn't mean that people are suddenly going to start carrying weapons where they weren't before.

It also is worth mentioning that the law does not concern being intoxicated or consuming alcohol while carrying a firearm. It has to do with where you're carrying it. That is one of my problems with it, the law should consider how the individual with the firearm is behaving, not where they are carrying the firearm.

Police officers, to my understanding, do not drink when they're on the job. Shouldn't the law address how intoxicated a carry permit holder is, rather than where they are carrying?
