Yeah I was toying around with some ruels for him.

Wraithhawk Construct
135 base cost HQ
Can choose from Brightlance (40), Bright Lance and Missile Launcher(75), or Wraithspear (10)
Moves as jump infantry
Armor is changed to a 4+ (due to less armor for weight) and he has a 5+ invuln (some sort of field)
Immune to Wraithsight (Spiritstone wing matrix)
4 wounds

Seems like a balanced trade off for point cost to usefulness/eating an HQ slot.


As far as what's next I have a lot of painting to get done. I'll post pics of my Warlock jetbiker conversions, magnetization of artillery batteries, female 8 Swooping Hawks, and I have an upcoming Farseer on jetbike project.

Looking good! The wings are a truly lovely addition, and the pose is really well done. That's a great thematic element. I can't wait to see what sort of display diorama you work up for this army!

As for rules: As an Eldar player and one who loves the idea, I still have to say that 135 for a flying Wraithlord with no spiritsight weakness is way too low. You might compare it to Tyranid monstrous creatures for a good scale.

Given the mobility of the unit, the T8, 4 wounds and the invuln save, 155 points with Wraithsight still in effect seems fairer, or 180 without Wraithsight (which might also be justified by making it a special character- say the soul of the Craftworld's Hawk-obsessed Autarch, back from the dead to lead on). The weapon upgrades are still fairly costed, though.

Also, as-is it seems a better fit for the FA slot than HQ.

As a suggestion, if you decide to make another one these beautiful Wraith Lords, I would like to see one of them landing on a enemy while driving its spear into it. It would look awesome if you did that with a Dreadnaught.

Heh I may one day get crazy enough to do a 2nd one, but for play viability my list uses 2 prisms. Love the spear idea though

Yeah this construct is actually being named Wraithhawk Nemglan.

Some back story:
Nemglan and Uairebhuidhe (Celtic god and goddess of birds) were the Hawk Exarchs that took control of the craftworld that would eventually be known as Uaire-Nem. It was launched from the home worlds, full of orphans and young children, hoping that the Craftworld's prototype Webway engine (small craftworld capable of traveling the webway) could get the young away fast enough. The craftworld was effected strangely by the birthscream and the young were uneffected while the majority of the older Eldar had their souls devoured. Nemglan and Uairebhuidhe reluctantly took control and their influence drove the Craftworld heavily into the Hawk Temples to channel the revenge for their fallen parents and caretakers.

Whew so the Wraithhawk is finally 100% complete!

So I liked the basing so much I decided that was how I'm going to do the whole army. All my previous models just had a flock pack down to place-hold till I figured out basing. So I went back and redid a few with this new style...

I like the basing actually as it's not over the top but fits for what I think the eldar would try and settle on.

Wow. Wraithhawk is amazing. I really like the overlapping blue and white of the wings as it sort of looks like they're vibrating if you look at it a certain way. That gives it a lot of col points because that's how the swooping hawks wings are explained to work. good work and keep it up.

I like your new basing it looks much better than your old green flocked ones. Also love the wraithhawk thingy, looks really heroic.

@Empchild: I was actually taking a massive stab in the dark when I made the bases but the end product was better then I imagined. I think the same thing about the planet, since it looks like a moist and fertile lowland.

@Bloody: Thanks a bunch there is subtle shading between the feather plates that if you stare at it too long in person it does start to screw with your head a lil lol.

@Rose: yeah those old bases were a 5 second placeholder since I knew I need to worry about painting foremost. I actualyl thought they looked good when I started making the army... now I look at them like wtf lol.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Attended Genghis Con, hosting a campaign, and making up family time for all the painting lol. Thought I'd toss some action shots out there to at least give an update until I get some more shots taken and start my next projects.

This shots are from Genghis Con 2010, Denver CO. Took 9th due to a crushing defeat by Tzeentch demons round 3 though I did receive 3rd in painting (not sure how) with was an honor since there was amazing armies there.

First shot is a blurry cam phone shot.


DA bladestormed some flamers, Jetbike and Warlock Jetbike assault move to grant cover.


Wraithahwk actually did amazingly well the whole Con. I never have luck with Wraithlords, but man did he shine. Here is a pic of him crushing some scouts that infiltrated too close to the board edge.

Very nice stuff indeed!

The Wraithawk in particular is quite stunning, and the 'group shot' really shows what a nicely painted/converted force you've got!

OK folks so forced myself to take pics as I went, but because my upload process is a pain I waited a while to post up stuff. Prepare for a photo dump...


So I get a lot of questions on how I get my models to look how they do so I figured I'd just take a pair of models and slow down the process step by step. Hopefully this will give someone some inspiration or something, or just eat time at work while you surf pics ;D

Step 1: Primer and basing completed (see pics above)

Step 2: The armoring plates, backpack, show soles, etc are painted Vallejo Light Turquoise. At this point the model looks like a hideous smurf. Cleanliness at this point isn't terribly important because you can just go back and clean up with Chaos Black.



Step 3: Use a larger sized brush and give a healthy dose of Asurman Blue wash. This is a little tricky because you want to keep the same shape of blue everywhere, make your strokes not apparent, and not glob too much on. This gives the blue a beautiful light/dark blue color that seems to have depth. Lighting as always doesn't capture the full effect in pictures.



Step 4: I hit the "mechanical" looking areas with Boltgun Metal. For Eldar this is typically cords, ribbed metal, big plate, vents, etc. Since this was such a small amount I did the Codex Grey on areas that will be white.



Step 5: I hit all all the plasma cores and soul stone sockets with Shining Gold. Yes, I use a lot of gold trim because I love the way it looks. Fluff behind it too.



Step 6: I use a Skull White/Codex Grey mix to walk the to be white up a bit.


Step 7: White is walked up a few shades. Black is prepped for where soul stones will be. Eyes, binoculars, and "eye" on the pole are done in Mithril Silver, which I use for all "optical" looking features.



Step 8: Soul stones are done in Chaos Black, Gore Red, Blood Red, Blazing Orange, and a dot of white. Other various parts around the model are cleaned and finished up.







Hopeful you enjoy the pics series. The D-Cannon Gun is half done atm, but I figure I'll do that in a separate post lol.

Made a lot of progress due to a slow day at work, but wasn't able to finish. Here is the D-Cannon so far...

Step 1 - The model has been converted using magnets because I couldn't bare the thought of permanent posing or not being able to swap out the guns. The gun swivels up and down and the turret moves 360, but unfortunately do to a poor constructed model the side standing plates snapped off. Seriously GW? You put on pewter that is like a mm thick and don't expect it to break? Anyhoo, it also has a flight base, because come on it's a grav platform. It doesn't effect the game at all since it sits the same height and the bases are the same size.






Step 2 - Here comes the smurf blue again...






Step 3 - Asurman Blue wash bath. With the wide open areas it's best to do two light layers in different directions. Of course waiting to dry between.



Step 4 - I hit some of the obviously mechanical areas with Boltgun Metal, but I'm still debating on the rear area with all the mechanical stuff. The vents in the back will get the metal, but I'll Badab Black them first. The back bumps are prepped with Chaos Black, as they will all be done up as soul stones.



Step 5 - A bunch of the gold is done, but this is where I had to leave off.

Holly cow man, that wraithhawk is amazing. You are also really good at painting. I personally like going with the traditional aspect colors but your fire dragons look real sharp! I like it alot, keep it coming.
