You sooooooooo need to meet Mandolin Pete
No-one in The Beatles was especially talented: Lennon and McCartney could throw a decent melody together etc... The things they are best remembered for (Videos, production, style, promotion, etc.) are all down to people outside the band.
Get over it.

No, and I don't see a Beatles Rockband video game... because I have literally no interest in it. At all...

I thought I was pretty clear towards the end here when I finished up. I appreciate some of the Beatles music, but their lasting icon doesn't really hold any weight in my mind. As soon as the Beatles pop up again, and make some really great songs, I will likely listen. Never been one to get stuck listening to music for very long, I get distracted quite easily by shiny objects don't ya know.
The Beatles surely did something for the music industry at large, exactly what that is escaped me, but I really don't feel that they were quite as 'important' as people like to think. In terms of musicians that I know, many of them who play guitar, were inspired much more by Hendrix, and assorted affiliates. This is probably because of who I know, and the limitations of that, but I really do not hear the Beatles on the Radio as often as Hendrix. I see more merchandise for Hendrix (which is actually not a good thing in my mind) around where I live, I see more influence from him in general around here.
I'll say it again, I do enjoy some of the Beatles music quite a bit; by no means all of it though.

I think the fans will think the Beatles were the most important band that existed. MJ fans will feel the same. Let's not forget their is a reason MJ was the "king of pop". Beatles might influenced and made things happen in the 60's that hadn't happened until then but MJ was just as important and influential in the world of pop as the Beatles were for their musical accolades.
You don't have to know a whole lot about the Beatles to feel that people are over emphasizing their importance. If you don't like something you will probably downplay it's importance.
They were important in their time and influential but they weren't exactly the band that made music what it is today. Lots of bands/artists share that title.

That’s my point, though. None of those artists, despite the huge careers and success of MJ and Madonna, will get their own Rockband set. The Beatles are quite legitimately in a class beyond even those pop icons in terms of songwriting, popularity, and longevity.

Check out the CD for the Cirque du Soleil show “Love”. It has a bunch of new arrangements, and is really nice. Or the soundtrack for the excellent recent musical Across the Universe. Again, a bunch of really good new arrangements and performances of mostly-amazing Beatles material; I particularly enjoy the versions of All My Loving, I’ve Just Seen a Face, Come Together, and Happiness is a Warm Gun, though out of over 30 songs used in the movie, only one or two aren’t excellent.
Those are just within the last couple of years. Can you name me any other popular bands who have recently had a Cirque show or a popular film based on their music?

No worries, I try not to take these things too seriously.
That’s my point, though. None of those artists, despite the huge careers and success of MJ and Madonna, will get their own Rockband set. The Beatles are quite legitimately in a class beyond even those pop icons in terms of songwriting, popularity, and longevity.
TBH, you are probably right if you really get down to the brass tax of all of it. The fact that The Beatles have their own Rockband video game (not many other video games made just for one band, I admit) is not necessarily the most uplifting thing in my eyes. The fact that their music is still so popular says a whole lot more to me.
Check out the CD for the Cirque du Soleil show “Love”. It has a bunch of new arrangements, and is really nice. Or the soundtrack for the excellent recent musical Across the Universe. Individually most of the stuff you are talking about doesn't really sway me. When I begin to look at the scope of the actual Beatles brand, it does seem pretty clear that they did something different than others. All artists are different though, and most pop icons are single people, which I suppose is part of the reason that JL got so much recognition (along with his talent, and death of course).
I highly doubt that a pop icon will ever achieve the scope of what the Beatles did, but looking around at how the industry is manipulating the 'viral' market; I see many musicians creating a very lasting icon with a lot less work. Efficiency develops over time, and maybe the Beatles were the 'first viral' campaign, when there really was no true 'viral' market. The saturation of the Pop industry now, also serves to water down my feelings about any pop icon though.

I think the lasting popularity of The Beatles' music is what made Beatles Rockband possible and profitable. The game is just a tangible sign.
Personally, I think the modern media environment makes it more difficult for any band or artist to become as iconic as great artists of the past. There are just so many more media channels that it's less likely for a high percentage of us to all be watching or listening to the same thing.

They are all very talented.
Lennon was shot, Marvin Gaye was shot, Jeff Buckley couldn't swim (but Hallelujah! at least he stopped making music).
Talent is in the ear of the beholder. In my case, there is a rough 20% of the human vocal range I cannot hear (I was born profoundly deaf, with a surgical 'correction' at the age of 6 which restored around 80% of my hearing, but there are large gaps in it). As a result, much of music is incomprehensible noise to me. I'm more of a visual/tactile person as a result.

Oh, of course! I LOVE the sound of applause - it's incredibly addictive. The largest audience I've ever played to was only about 600 people about 8 years ago - I can only imagine what it must be like to play in Shea Stadium in front of hordes of screaming teenagers! It takes arrogance to get up in front of an audience and go 'look at me - aren't I wonderful?' - which is essentially what every performer does.
