It's ok to not release all of the models all at once... but it's frustrating when they are never released. Especially when they are very competetive units!
I'm all for conversions, but you have to draw the line somewhere. having 1-2 model types in a list that don't have models *ie flashh gitz* is ok. Publishing something like the tyranid codex where 1/3 of the models don't exist?? blasphemy.
What drives me even more nuts is apocalypse. they go out and release a great suppliment and then stop supporting it after a couple months... like hell release a new apoc model every 6 months or something... but don't drop the idea all togeather!... you can't even buy apoc reload anymore......

Well, I'm going to toss my two cents into this ocean of coins:
First and foremost: I love converting! My opinion rests on that fact.
That being said, I definitely agree with the argument that because 40k is a TLOS game there need to be specifications for size, height , etc, because not all conversions can be made off exiting models. Also, I don't think it would kill GW to release conversion kits like the very very few they already have.
Finally, GW needs improved communication with its customers. Take Blizzard, for example, they have a very active forum community where real Blizzard employees listen to their customers, take their opinions/ideas seriously, and make changes as necessary/possible. GW needs a forum like this attached to their official website to porperly support their fanbase/customers.

It depends a lot on the unit. Units that can be easily kit-bashed? Sure, I love to have a ton of those in the codices! Units that would be very hard to convert or need to be pretty much scratch-built? Now thats a whole different thing, I don't wish to see such units in the codices.

Yes. It's not a problem. We won't see models for these because they wouldn't sell well enough. If they suddenly become really popular they'll get a kit.

It's fine for people who enjoy converting but having the models on sale doesn't preclude people from doing just that. They should definitely make a Belial model. It wouldn't be too hard to get something exquisite that fitted all the fluff.

i like it and hate it.
NO TERVIGON WTF. what is wrong with you people.
When it comes to tanks and stuff those are not all that hard to scratch build. But a biological entity like the tervigon. dont even get me started on how bad GW has been to the nids. If i could Flog the company, shoot them, and then flog them again for what they did to the nids dex i would.
By the way, i am a pretty good scuptor and i almost finished my tervigon scupture before hatred for the dex overpowered me and i sold my bugs to someone in OZ.

I really like it, as it gives many opportunities to convert units, giving you distinctly different models from everyone elses.

I don't mind it to an extent. While I feel that some units don't necessarily require new/different models (as someone said on page 1, vanguard veterans are essentially assault marines with a different color scheme, and conscripts are just guardsmen with white stripes), some things really do need their own box, if only because there's nothing comparable to run it as. Most common one that I see, at least at the FLGS, is the Thunderwolf Cavalry - the only model we have is a 50-dollar HQ model that looks goofy as hell. And there's endless debate as to whether they should be run on a standard cavalry base, or if they're large enough to run on 40mm bases.
All that said, however, I can't say that I'd rather GW do it differently. I think it was yakface who said it on page 1, we have the option of having a codex with very few units in them, or at least codices with unit lists that feel incomplete or weak; having a codex put off for months to years while GW gets the sculpts done; or having everything as it is, with GW releasing incomplete model lines.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind it if GW lifted the "no models without 75% GW materials" rule for their tournaments. Some models that don't exist are actually made by outside companies like Paulson Games or Mr. Dandy.

I don't really have a problem if it's a relatively easy thing to convert (in my case kitbash). Things like Sternguard, Vanguard I'm fine with, my pathetic converting skills don't have to come into play. On the other hand if I was a 'Nid player and several huge monsters are missing, I'd be more inclined to care.

It irks me, but not for the reason stated in the poll. The unit doesn't look as good on the field if it's represented by something the player created in most cases because there are so few converters who can make a unit that looks as good as a GW sculpt. Sure you can put dragon wings on a carnifex and say it's a harpy and it might look decent, but I'll always know it's a carnifex with dragon wings. A harpy model would look better. The only exception to this rule is the looted wagon.
