I've always thought the previous edition beastmen gor models were some of GW's best. They're kinda understated (well, as understated as a GW mini can be. Their weapons were ridiculously over-sized). But the best part is their faces. There's the 2 obligatory mouth-open shouting faces, but the others don't just look angry, they have this look of utter contempt. They don't just want to kill the enemy, they think the enemy is a worm.

Faces that convey an actual emotion instead of a cartoony caricature are rare at this scale, and deserve applause whenever they are found. The new gor kit has some of that, but it also has a lot of silly bits (skinned face loin cloth? Really? Really????) to balance out the cool.

I think this was mentioned but for 40k the "Master of the Fleet" is great.
Nothing says "I am in command" as this model.
It is also easy to paint him differently and he can be an IG general.
The detail is great, looks fabulous and could be converted for many uses.

Another model worth mentioning is "Lord Solar Macharius".

Darkvoid: I agree abouut the night bringer, whats so cool about it if when charged by mephiston (who is a hundred points less than the night bringer) is guaranteed death.

I don't see whats so bad about lord solar macharius, then again he could look better. And have you seen Nagash *shudders*

Inquisitor Lord Coteaz. I love him from the top of his two headed eagle down to the tips of his steel clad boots. I like the eagle, and I LOVE the fur trimmed cloak. 'tis a gorgeous model. I would love for Witchhunters or Daemonhunters to get a reprint so I could buy one and actually use it.

Too many to list but generally anything by jes goodwin (or GOD as i know him) the original dark reapers especially the one with the forward pointing ML got me into the hobby (damn them!!!!). The set of models jes did for the marine and eldar codexs azrael, asurmen, calgar etc remain the best gw has done though as they set the template for everything to come, see his sketchbook Eldritch Visions to see what i mean.

Yes. I think all of the regimental advisors are great. And the previous edition Imperial Guard commander model (I think it had a monacle) fit in with them. Again, it's a case of the face actually saying something about the model. Saying something other than, GRAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

Another model worth mentioning is "Lord Solar Macharius".

I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with this one.

Well it makes it hard to have philosophical debates with them i imagine.

"So my favourite imperial guardsmen, how do you feel about fighting against tyranids today?"

"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAR!"

"They outnumber you 3 to 1."

"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR?!

"Quite, those odds make it hard to win."

"graaaar..."

"Yes, thats what i thought."

That's*! Tyranids*!

Now, back on topic.

I quite like the humble guardsman.. yes, they're fairly uninspiring models, but they're as human as you get in the 40k universe, and we can relate to that. Infact it's one of the main reasons we collect them.. asides from the tanks.. the lovely tanks!! FEAR USSSS, WE HAVE TANKSSSSSS!

Badly posed ones at that

I can see what they were trying to pull off with the pose.. but they just screwed up. But if anyone needs a new model it's Tiggyrius - with some Terminator armour too this time would be nice

The kasrkin models are fantastic. They really captured the feel of heavily armored elite shock troops IMHO. I also really liked the old Tallarn imperial guard range except for the Al'Rahem model.

My favorite would be the corpse cart. For some odd reason I find a pile of zombies on a cart being pulled by zombies with a robed guy holding a pike with a zombie on it funny. But as a whole I think the vampire counts model range is super awesome.

+1 for this model - he's got that "don't mess with me" attitude. Really nice to paint too.

Also I've got a lot of love for the original Land Raider - it's iconic, and the new version of the Land Raider is a worthy update - what an excellent looking tank, aesthetically I think I prefer it even to the mighty Baneblade

Ooh, and from a previous life (about WD112 or so as I recall) the original metal terminators box set was the coolest thing ever in the history of ever... and from the same era the all-metal wartrack and field gun (always wanted one of these but never got one - I get the feeling that having such a large model entirely made of metal might have been a nightmare, but it looked cool)

And for comedy value... Squat Bikers anyone...? Bueller? anyone? anyone?... Bueller?

Right I'll stop now...

...oh hang on no I won't - how about the epic scale titans? I remember falling in love with the old Reaver and the Eldar Phantom. Wasn't so keen on the original warhound though.
