No bits service makes this a non-starter for anyone who doesn't work in the studio.
The old bitz service was cool. I can't argue that. It was, admittedly, probably a major hassle for
GW to run.
They could still showcase a lot of conversions if they're willing to extend their scope a bit.
For a tiny expansion, focus on scratch-builds with stuff from non-gaming resources. I.E. making tanks look better with stuff from the hardware store or similar. I know I always enjoyed the scenery articles from
WD.
For a larger expansion, an informal 'OK' for the 'after market' conversion bits stuff could allow for a lot of articles. I.E. "Build your own
IG Regiment" using those alternate heads (On Cadian bodies, so it's not as if
GW isn't making money on the deal). I see this as a change that would be difficult for them to make, as some aspects of the company seem slightly hostile to the 3rd party stuff.
Articles showing ways to build the 'fringe' armies (Ad-Mech, Fallen, whatever) using existing rule sets would be nice, too.
