The SF law requires that the meal be less than 600 calories, include vegetables and fruit (no expressed amount), and not include a drink with "excessive" sugars or fat, before a toy can legally be included.

McD hamburger is 260 calories and includes pickles and onions.
Small Fries is 230 calories, and many places (school lunches) count them as a veggie.
Add a small Sprite or Milk and it still doesnt top 600 calories (@590)

4 piece Nuggets comes in under 250 calories including sauces.

The Apple dippers are @100 calories with caramel sauce.

So the real question is..... Does this law REALLY ban Happy Meals?
The evidence says ...Not really.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

Does that 600 calories not include the drink? It is kind of hard to tell from the language.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I would guess it includes the drink. But like I posted above, a Small Sprite is only @100 calories... and you know they pack those things with ice.....

What? You think the requirement that companies provide nutritional information on their food is the government controlling our lives?

Stop being silly.

I've been to China and, well, Chinese food eaten in China is not great. It isn't like Mexican food or Indian food or whatever else, it's actually a type of food that got a whole lot better when it spread out across the world. I've haven't been to a General Tso's, and I'm guessing that's pretty horrible, but seriously the average Chinese restaurant in the West is a whole lot better than the average Chinese restaurant in China.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Well, all the information does is help people decide what they want to eat armed with simple information about the product they are about to consume.

The problem I have is that the caloric count is gonna be off a bit, depending on how much food they put on it.

Umm, what? It's been provided thanks to government regulation. It probably still isn't adequate, due to the contextless environment it is provided in, and the generally stupidly small 'standard serves' used to give the information.

And yeah, once the information is provided then it's up the parent, and that's fine. But don't pretend that information would be provided if it wasn't for government involvement.

I suspect it has more to do with the mark ups available on healthy foods. You can charge $1 for an apple, so you better believe it's got a better mark up compared to a cheeseburger.

Required by law. As in, forced to do something due to the presence of a policy enforced by the government, which is exactly what Sebster said. Like, verbatim.

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

Yeah, I've heard that from a mate who just got back from there. He said the food was terrible - VERY poor quality meat. Kind of a shame, because the food was one of the reasons he was looking forward to going. He saw someone eat a duck's beak! BLEURGH! Do not want.

Did your mate enjoy the dawn chorus of citizens hawking up their lungs and spitting up phlegm? That's a real authentic breakfast experience.

The law is frackin' slowed.

If kids want toys with junk food mom and dad will take them to Walmart, buy them a bag of chips and soda and a toy.

Just another way for "big brother" to run our lives.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.”
